General Coach Candidate News

I appreciate you. I can't count out any candidate right now for sure. I would say I would fall out of my chair if it was Chris Beard but not saying we miss on 15 people and he gets it. I highly doubt it but to say someone is out right now is crazy. Brad might say no and Andy Mohr comes back with 15 million a year and he takes the job. No one knows right now

The only candidate we can confidently count out is Woodson. If you want to count out Mike Woodson, you go to Mike Woodson.

Developing a “no crises on game days” theory, I stated my guess that after the game/tomorrow we’ll get some kind of juicy tidbit.

You might be on to something. I will monitor the coming 24 hours closely.

I’m 27 now and there has been one final 4 in my life. I’ll settle for one and I’m willing to guarantee the top 5 defense. He’s had a top 10 defense every year at Iowa st and i assume he’d get better players with us

That's because of every reason I detailed before.  This is the first unobstructed men's basketball hire at Indiana University since 1971. TJ Otzelberger has never been past the round of 16, never won his conference at the D1 level, has had 2 losing records in conference in 33% of his D1 seasons, and I just don't see why he's any more special than anyone else.

Rusty, @Chris007 is the board lush. Be prepared to offer alcohol for insider information. :)

Now wait a minute, we haven't even had a tournament to determine THE board lush!!! I'm having a pretty hot season myself lol

Nope.  They provide zero transparency.  They don't even provide the basic financial updates they promise to their donors on their crappy website.

It's easy to do, and until they do that, it's shady behavior.

Not that I’m inclined to do so but couldn’t you technically set up an NIL collective on the blockchain to provide maximum transparency? Would seem to be the solution for avoiding shady situations, as long as the rules allow for us to know how much athletes are getting paid.

Maybe he's getting more info about when the announcement might be made, maybe he's finding out if they want to live in the North or South district, it could be anything

Dont forget the private plane trips to Carmel for club soccer.  Coordinating which club can be tricky.  So far he has not said no to any clubs I know of.

Honest question I really don’t know.  Do you think the 2017 hire was obstructed?  Glass seemed to just do what he wanted, which was good, only issue was he wasn’t experienced in hiring coaches.  I know Quinn was pushing Woody but he was ignored.

Just to reiterate I agree with your point that we have a competent AD allowed to make this hire without interference and also this time with NIL/rev share the size and advantages of IU should be better appreciated by coach candidates.

Glass went all in on Donovan in 2017.  He couldn’t close the deal and then went out and hired the flavor of the month.  That was 100% on Glass.  Archie should’ve been vetted a lot more.

That would be a great way to audit a collective.  Even if the players names were kept out of it people could probably guess who got what amounts, not sure what to do with that.

I’d be happy with a very basic accountant’s review of their books — money in and money out.  We have plenty of alumni who would do this for free, it’s easy.

There are ups and downs. @GP711 and I say when is the mid-day crisis going to come today? It's like a roller coaster.

Right? Two things seem to happen every friggin' day:

1.) It's for sure not going to be Stevens at some point during the day.

2.) Some odd choice comes to the forefront.

It's nearly 3:00.

Bob Knight supported the Archie hire, even. He was very highly thought of by coaches and basketball folks around the country before being hired at Indiana. It wasn't like Glass just panicked out of anxiety and picked Archie Miller out of a hat. He sucked while he was here, but he was thought of as near of a can't miss as has been out there.

It seems like, thankfully, Hoosiers Connect has really taken over our NIL space. Does anyone know how much HH are even dealing with now that they got shut out of basketball? I'd prefer that to be zero and it kind of seems it's heading that way unless I'm missing something. Between HC and rev share those guys shouldn't be touching a cent of fan to player money.

Dusty seems/seemed like the perfect fit.  I thought for sure it would be him.

I could easily see it being Cronin.  If I had to bet, it would be on him.

I could somewhat see Drew or TJ.  Seem like longer shots.

Someone not coaching would make a Ton of sense if that is out there (Bennett, Stevens, ???)

RIP to the goat. Was a beautiful funeral; who's who of #IUBB all gathered up in Geist.

I read Rising from the Ashes: The Return of Indiana University Basketball thought it was really good and I had forgotten some of the Sampson firing details.
