General Coach Candidate News

& if BS has been dragging him along this whole time, knowing for the past months/year that this decision was imminent,  then he ain’t the good guy everyone has made him out to be either…

Yes.  Assuming the account we've heard from 4 years ago with BS to be true, if Dolson inquired and got anything but an "I'm interested, tell me more" type response this time, that would be time to focus his efforts elsewhere.

I have said this before, but to me it is really important to reinforce and emphasize:

  • The coaching search is fun
  • Winning the press release and initial press conference is NOT the goal.
  • Getting a big name whose naming makes our rivals sad is NOT the goal.
  • Being right or getting a candidate that makes any of us think "Yesssss!" is NOT the goal.
  • The goal is to find a coach that wins a ton of games for an extended tenure and makes us proud of the performance and culture of the Indiana Hoosiers basketball team. And that goal could be accomplished by hiring:
    • A big, big name like Stevens or Drew, or
    • A less big name like Collins, McCollum, Schertz, McCasland, Byington, etc, etc., etc.

We'll also have to wait and see how the new coach actually performs.  People could generally be bummed with the hire, but then the hire does great.  Or everyone loves the hire, but then they struggle for some reason.

This is what I fear the most.  That Dolson thought he’d get Stevens, it ain’t happening & now we’re scrambling again.  If that’s the case SD should be fired.  I just don’t have the faith that many others do because of the Cig hire…

How are they scrambling?

Do people actually expect every coaches agent Dolson reaches out to to immediately announce IU is interested in my client?

Some coaches may be more private.

Some coaches may think it would adversely affect their recruiting

Some agents may want to maintain a good reputation of confidentiality among AD's for other clients.

There is almost a month or more before any coach IU would be interested in will be available.

The angst on here is comical

Ha, no way.  With FB doing well, Scott is set, that sport drives everything in the athletic dept.  Scott has setup IU to bring in tens of millions more in revenue, and last year the school was showcased on GameDay and Big Noon and other shows like it never has before.
And for the 1,000th time, Scott didn't hire Woody so he isn't held responsible.  Scott just got an extension and raise in May 2024.
Before you crown dolson the next coming maybe wait and see how this fall goes in football. The schedule is tougher and your basing if all on one season.

True.  Heck, a new coach could come in and make a big impact for the first season or two and then settle in to ho-hum results (or take a couple of seasons to build momentum).

That adds up. If Michigan believed that May was going to become Target #1, they would have to move fast and they did

But they were working on something for much longer than that. It was just presented to him that day

Stevens

May

Alford

Schertz

Scott Drew

McCollum

(Schertz troll his Facebook page:   philosophy, player buy in during interviews, intelligent speaking, Kaizen, 21st century style of play while being a defensive minded coach…..with a popular team first offense with individual roles where everyone wins on team, a competitor, early age tennis star that took him to basketball…type of guy that using IU NIL (team assembly) would put an A+ team on the floor that would be connected as a team, in university, community and likable/lovable by fans.

"Calhoun's health is the word"

Maybe my favorite quote from all my years of on IU message boards, it just keeps on giving

This comes up a bunch but I don’t know the context. Who can share?

Love that you think enough of yourself to discount their opinions, thoughts & exploration of possibilities without any actual knowledge of your own!  Awesome self-confidence!!!!

Hello Olivia Photography ...

These are exactly the type of guys that could lose the press release, make our rivals' fans 'not sad' and win a ton of games at IU for a very, very long time.

Murray has always been intriguing.

Actually, I'm not basing it off one season.  IUFB doesn't need to have a year like last year to be on a path to improvement and improved revenue.

The IU athletic dept is more than just basketball.

Absolutely.  Until we start bringing in top talent across the board like the elite teams, we'll struggle against real title contenders.  Even if we never do (how many elite cfb teams are there?) - being a very good, top 1/3 of the conference team, year in and year out, would still be a fantastic improvement.

love that you have no clue how Scott Dolson operates, but assume the worst.

Then you're given a GREAT example of a SD hire, a more important hire, actually (Cignetti) and you just brush it off.
