I had this theory last night when I was fighting my insomnia. I'm not saying I believe it, I'm just putting it out there.

So the Woodson hire came out of left field 4 years ago. It was rumored that Dolson wanted Matta but he failed the physical, blah blah blah. Either way, Dolson had to know that neither of those guys were long term hires. If I remember correctly, Dolson even mentioned in an interview last year that he viewed Woodson as a sort of "bridge" hire and the next coach would be more of a long term solution.

So this made me think. What if there really was legs to the Stevens talks last time as many here have said. What if Stevens did indeed say that the timing wasn't right but otherwise he would be interested. So Dolson decided to make a short term hire (Woodson or Matta) that would bridge the gap until Stevens was available to take the job. I say this because it is the only logical reason why you would hire somebody like Woodson.

So if that insane theory of mine is correct, that would mean that Stevens is indeed the #1 candidate and that a possible agreement is in place. It would also mean that this 4 years of suffering under Woodson was all by design. Although, a short stint with Matta would have been preferable to Dolson, it just didn't materialize.

Is Dolson really capable of playing 4d chess like this?

Or am I crazy and we will hire Kermit Davis or Paul Mills in two weeks?

I was just naming a reporter and his name popped into my head

maybe but I think it's a good guess - if someone was told to 'lay off but IF anything comes of it then you'll be the first to know' that would support the wording and timing of the 'denial of interest'. Again - I know nothing - but makes sense.

So Pitino was vouching hard for Beard this morning?  Apparently said he’d have us top 5 almost every year.  It’s just such a perfect fit you know the Indiana administration will muck it up.

Get over it. Beard will not be the coach and it would be an awful fit off the court.

If there was an announcement during the B1G tourney then it would have to be someone from the NBA. No way they would announce a coach that is hopefully coaching a team in the NCAA tourney

That's correct

Because there is only one real logical time to announce our next coach and that is after our current coach’s job ends. That day - end of ncaa tourney is a relatively small window

.....I will piggy back this too and say we can all agree the the "Woodson Experiment/Era" or whatever you want to call it, can't end soon enough, but..........

Dolson's is a very smart business man! His stock has continued to rise these last two years by investing tons of money in the football program, includeing hiring a stellar coach and stellar assistants.

He has full support from Whitten and this next bb coach should be another feather in his cap.

With that being said, Dolson will give Woodson the full season. He will not want to interrupt Mike or this team by news of his replacement until they are finished. I just see Dolson doing this as professional as possible. jmo

I may not like it, but something tells me this is how it's gonna play out.

I mean it isn’t that crazy if you are Dolson and worried about losing a shot at Stevens by hiring someone young that has a Crean level run and lasts 10 years. And then we never have a shot at Stevens once his kids are older.  This is good fanfic and makes sense.

I get it. IU won’t hire him.  But if it’s not Brad, Dusty, Drew, Pearl, Beard, or Wade I absolutely guarantee you we are doing another coaching search in 3-5 years.

Yeah all the worry about the administration looking dumb if they hire Beard and he screws up, but they’ll be looking real stupid anywhere when they hire yet another doofus who sucks at the job and we’re back at it 3 years from now.

I would take Beard above anyone else. He’s passionate about college basketball, loves IU and is a proven winner.

Ole Miss fans love him
