Yes, a good coach who can win big here 

Yes, he would be divisive.He might drive off some big donors, but if he starts winning like I think he can, they’d start coming back.

All that to say. Based on his stated love and respect of RMK. Based on him outwardly expressing that he wants the IU job. I think Chris Beard would turn a new leaf in Bloomington. I think he views IU as his church, and RMK his mentor. I believe that he would not do anything that would tarnish those things he holds as so important to him. For lack of better words, I think IU would be the salvation for Chris Beard.

Whether the opportunity exists for him will require some open minds who believe in the concept of redemption. Whether the opportunity exists is going to take leadership who believes that the IU brand is strong enough to take the initial hit it will undoubtedly take, and believe that the reward is worth the risk.

I have personally seen people who have been in as low or lower places than Beard, and have changed themselves to become well respected individuals who contribute to the greater good of society. All it takes is one person, one group of leaders, to give him the chance.

 

I agree everyone deserves a 2nd chance but it’s hard for me to give him one at a school I love.  Having a mother, wife, and daughter it would be very hard for me to support the hire, wins or not.  No place for domestic violence (and I’m not saying you condone that in any way). That’s just my opinion and it really only matters to me I guess.  Very, very good coach, just the wrong kind of crime for myself to be able to forgive.

It would be similar to the Tom Crean hire in the fact that there were Marquette fans that were happy we took him off of their hands

Brownell would be so disappointing. Very hopeful IU will have the stones to take a chance on a guy whose ceiling is a 25 year knight-esque run (McCollum). 
 

Cronin would get us in the dance every year. I wouldn’t hate it. But you’re not competing for titles with any regularity with that offense.

My list if Brad isn’t available like Goodman says is Dusty, Dusty, he should already be the coach. I argued that with NGW till I was blue in the face. He wanted Woodson with a bankroll by donors. I ended up being right because anyone with any basketball knowledge knew Woodson couldn’t coach and Dusty can. If he says no I would do McCollum, then TJ. If we get that desperate then Beard or Wade. Flip a coin.

Flip TJ and McCollum and I’m with you.  Wade before Beard cause Wade hasn’t choked anyone that we know of yet.

Completely understand. As I said, his hiring would be divisive.

 I have a wife, daughters, granddaughters and soon a great-granddaughter. I get it. I also try to put myself in other’s shoes. 
 

I bet most everyone has something in their past that they don’t want to be made public.

Faith can be the foundation for change. Hoping Chris can embrace that whether he comes to Bloomington or not

I usually tend go with the younger cheaper guy but I’m ok with that. It’s not my money. And I haven’t checked they could be close in age.

Everyone saying we shouldn't hire Pearl, but what's Auburns record this season? I'll wait, but before I do I'll also say if his son is learning how to coach from him I'd be a lot less concerned with the back end deal, and you know dad would be helping him learn from his mistakes as a coach and learn how to be great at the highest level along the way. Sure the first couple years might be a little shaky but I'd bet once he really gets going he'll do really well. Just my opinion.
