I very well could be, that just struck me as odd.

If Steven’s said he’s not a candidate then that would be the most important words that Steven’s would say regarding the job. But Steven’s wasn’t quoted as saying that. He said he was happy working with the Celtics. None of that has anything to do with the IU job. To me that means the door is still very much open and that was put out as a way to quiet everything down.

Never gonna happen in Bloomington in a million years, but some AD who’s secure in his position and doesn’t care about winning the presser, maybe 1 of the 2 Florida schools, is gonna take Shaheen Holloway out of that Seton Hall NIL hellscape and in 2 or 3 years is gonna look pretty freaking smart. I know it’s his alma mater, but he’s a really good coach and that’s a really bad deal and he’s not going to stay there and get his brains beat in for 15 years because they have no money.

He coaches his tail off every game. It looks like they have a sixth player on the court half the time lol. He had to scrape the barrel for this roster and the season hasn’t gone their way, but they still play tough and might beat UConn today. He is a very good coach and will make a worthy program very happy someday, hopefully soon. Guy can be big time, just not at SHU in the world of NIL. It is not a personality fit but I’d love him at IU, we’d be the hurryin Hoosiers again.

I want a consistent year in, year out identity of gritty, maximum effort, toughness, bare knuckle basketball. That requires a culture that reflects a personality type. I believe that's what IU nation would embrace. That's who we are I think. We're a gritty,  basketball-educated fan base that sees through gimmick, half-assed basketball. Dusty would be successful but I have no idea what a Dusty culture would look like. Toughness will win a lot of games and when matched with talent you have a juggernaut. The coaches out there that I admire for that are Sampson, Pitino, Beard and Otzweiler. 3 of those have had issues. 2 of those are old. Otzweiler isn't leaving his wife's school.  I keep coming back to Beard.

Again, just my opinion based on my experience working in PR for an NBA team, but my experience is that fans massively overrate this idea of smokescreens.
I've been a part of GM's being hired, coaches being hired/fired, stars being traded, etc., and while it's been a long time that I worked there and the landscape has changed, ive never been a part of a conversation about sending out smokescreens or getting false information to reporters to get them off the scent, etc.
I'm not saying it never happens, but not nearly to level fans think.
Thanks for the info! I appreciate the perspective I would never have in my line of work.

What about Tommy Amaker?

(Everyone else loves throwing out random names, so I tried to find one that hasn't been mentioned in 1100 pages. Did I succeed?)

Have heard worse ideas. Tell you what would be awesome about that: Amaker comes to Bloomington and wins a Natty. As he’s being interviewed with confetti in his hair and One Shining Moment blasting away he looks straight into the camera and tells Krzyzewski to F himself for blocking him from getting the Duke job. Would be the greatest flex ever.

I'll throw out another name.  Ryan Odom-  Career .627 winning percentage.  He currently has VA Commonwealth ranked 32nd in Kenpom.

You don’t like him. You’ve made that very clear and it’s reasonable why you don’t…but there are plenty of people that would support him. There’s no reason to continue to comment and throw shade on everyone who throws their support to Beard.  Do I think he has high chance of becoming the next coach? No. I think it’s Dusty, but there’s a reason why Beard is thrown in the conversation…past sins aside…he’s a Knight guy that can coach.

Liking him has nothing to do with it.  UK, UL and Michigan all could have hired him and didn’t.  Why do you suppose that was??

Everyone is now trying to figure out if it was a concussion grenade or a frag grenade. Goodman is claiming it's a frag grenade without showing evidence of that and the rest of the media are running with that.

Yea.  Goodmans reporting was vague for sure and there is a sliver of hope.  But fwiw, I know some quality journos who cover the team and after looking into it their view is Brad is a no, which bummed me out.  I wanted to believe it’s Saban before Bama but not sure it is.  I don’t trust Rabby.

Anyways, we’ll see, hoping for the best.  Go IU.

I...huh? "I'm happy in Boston." does not equal "I'm not a candidate for the IU job." So people just jumped to that based on Goodman's tweet?

There was a screenshot of a text exchange several pages back, from another board I believe, that was supposedly from Goodman someone told him that Stevens told them he wasn't a candidate. So 3rd hand if the exchange was even real.

I love that guy. His teams play with their hair on fire for 40 every night and even with the talent gap they just never stop competing.

I just hope IU doesn't go cheap after Stevens said no. Dolson reportedly had $9M+/year lined up to throw at Stevens. Some of that may have been promised only for Stevens but I hope there was plenty that would be available for another quality coach. My fear is that we end up with a risky coach that is hired for $3-4M/year. I want them to spend $6-7M to get someone that is a known winner at the P5 level.

I’ve been thinking about tinfoil reasons for the generic “I love who I work for” denial. Maybe he’s just trying to be nicer about it this time. I can’t imagine at least some of his friends and family were less than impressed with the Masshole thing. I remember thinking at the time a simple “honored, but no thanks” would have sufficed. He didn’t need to basically make the state a joke for thinking he’d leave Boston. Maybe this in the inverse.

Tell me again how the last Knight guy did around these parts?

Yes, he deserves an interview for sure. Same with Travis Steele.

Let’s see…we have BobKnight’sGhost and Ghost of Rick Majerus.  We need a third ghost.  I suppose we could bring back Lou Watson…or Casper the Friendly Ghost…but the Ghost of Christmas Future just kinda feels like our guy.   lol.  :)

Houston just won at Arizona. Looking at record 7-0 on road. GRIT.
