McCollum is the safe hire and Cronin is risky? I’ll have what you’re having :)

You’re investing a lot in Cronin. Buyout, salary bump, etc….IU doesn’t do that=risky

McCollum is your safe bet, run of the mill salary $3-4mil/yr guy

Knowing IU, they will take the latter every time.

I assume it’s a hard “no” from Brad?

I mean, Woj did report we offered 7/70 million. I dont see why he would lie about that.

Smart. Makes Indiana fanbase feel good that we tried. Shows agents we are willing to pay for a winner. But if they know Stevens is a no it’s a nonstarter and media spin only.

You don’t offer 10 a year then immediately spend 4 on a long, long shot unless you weren’t really willing to spend 10.

Hopefully no one is still buying this stuff.  If this info was so easy to find out, or there are that many people blabbing this info to their friends, the media would be all over it. Plus, why would anyone with actual knowledge of this coaching search be so willing to give this info away? Come on, y’all. Surely you aren’t this gullible.
It is a little odd honestly it would all be made public. Nobody had any clue we were ever after sampson. And crean also was kind of a surprise. Unless people just leak more now.

Then why wasn’t the quoted part say “I am not a candidate”.

Do I think brad is coming. No. But the quoted part was very vague and denied nothing. Harbaugh and Saban said worse things and look what happened

They said those things in pressers with their back against the wall and no choice but to lie or they were sunk. Stevens texted Goodman when he didn’t have to say anything. Massive difference.

I don’t understand why it’s hard to believe he’s not interested. He is effectively the chief executive at the best basketball club in the world, both right now and in history

It’s so very clearly not happening. Can we please move on to discussing realistic options.

A distraction *for him* that he knows isn’t going to end otherwise. If he was taking the job, he’d know it was ending soon. Surely you see the difference.

He may not come here. That quoted comment from Stevens was basically the same thing May said. The part about not being a candidate was not quoted and it certainly could have come from him with the intention of shutting this down. But if you have followed coaching searches there have been soft comments like that and even more definitive comments from coaches who still end up taking the job.

Taking a victory lap now as if his coming was the craziest idea and it is definitely over while basically just showing to this community is tiresome.  Maybe you will be right.  I am sure we find out soon.

one last item..IU is incredibly lucky to have Dusty May as an alumn. Look at UK and Louisville last year. All I heard was Dan Hurley to UK and Scott Drew to UL. They didn't hit "home runs" during their hire. Pope and Kelsey have done great so far. Point is, it's going to be really hard to get a very good coach to leave their current situation. Why I'm extremely happy that someone with the success of May, Cronin, McDermott would want to potentially come here.

Exactly! There is a way to definitively shut it down, and that is by coming out and fully addressing it like he did last time where there was no guessing. They know what they are doing when vague statements are made and it is anything but shutting down the noise. Smokescreen work because those that are gullable enough to believe them are distracted. I'll stay focused on the fact that he did not deny it himself and that we heard a weak statement from Jeff Goodman.

The self delusion is incredible.

There are several great candidates out there. I honestly feel like the pool is much better this time around compared to 2021. Sure I'd love Dusty May. He is the top option. But...Why does nobody want Cronin or McDermott? I'd be thrilled if Indiana got them.

Cronin has won at places that don't have the resources like IU...yes I know it's UCLA but still. Once he got Cincy going they made the tournament every year. At UCLA in his second year they had a final four run. Two Sweet 16's the seasons after that. They look like a team that can make a run in March. His teams play hard. I also think his personality is EXACTLY what this program needs. Look how UCLA has done since he called the team out.

McDermott did an incredible job taking Creighton from the MVC to the Big East.  Starting in 2019-2020, Creighton has been a contender to compete for their conference championship and to make the second weekend of the NCAA Tournament. I think they almost got to the Final 4...lost to San Diego State in a crazy game if I remember.

I just don't get all the complaining. I'm sick and tired of watching this crappy play of basketball. As a fan, I want this team to contend for Big Ten Championships and make deep runs in March. Make it to the second weekend, anything can happen. Dusty May has proven he can do this. But so has Mick Cronin and Greg McDermott. I'd go as far to say IU is a top 20 team this year with either one of these guys coaching.

Indiana probably isn't going to have a coach until late March. I'm trying my best to get behind this team and hope they can maybe make some kind of run. If not, I'll enjoy the rest of college basketball. I think Dolson will get this hire right. It just can't be Stevens or bust. Yes, he was my #1 choice. But he doesn't want to be here.

I'll go:

1) May

2) Drew

3) Cronin

4) McDermott

I still have a hard time with Cronin.  I had May and Stevens tied and would be thrilled with either.

This board/thread will get a lot more interesting once everyone recognizes Chris/AP don’t know what they’re talking about. They get info (biased) from people who know people who MIGHT know people. If you honestly believed a sitting GM from the most famed basketball franchise in the free world was honestly going to give up his post in the middle of a potential repeat…shame on you. Shame on the people who fed you this nonsense for the last several weeks.
