He’s not my 1st or 2nd choice, but he’d do very well at IU. What happened at Iowa St, I didn’t follow closely, but under .500? Imo, the #1 criteria for our next coach is no failures, firings, etc at other jobs. To me, major red flag.

Defined as 'proven' McCollum (43): D1 and D2 combined. 8 Sweet 16's and beyond with a peak of 4 National Championships. Implied to be 'unproven'. I would disagree with that logic. Proven at the Power 4 level. That’s what this comes down to. McDermott has competed in the Big East where 4 National Championship teams have came from. He has held his own in the conference which in some years was considered the best in all of college basketball. I think McCollum would kill it however comparing D2 level success compared to someone doing it at the Power 4 isn’t apples to apples. If you want a proven Power 4 winner McDermott is the choice regardless of age. If you want a younger non Power 4 coach that has shown the ability to win at a lower level in the D2 ranks you take McCollum. go iu bb 1

Since then he went to Creighton and the Big East which is a Power 4 conference and has won consistently.
Uspshoosier Posted February 14 Posted February 14 If McDermott takes the job he would be leaving a place that averages more fans at their home games then IU does. Creighton is 6th in attendance while IU was 7th Demo, go iu bb, Stuhoo and 1 other 4

I know some are concerned about tempo and pace, but I just don't think that's an issue. I think he'd be terrific here. I’m coming around on him. Even at a slower pace his team makes baskets. They average 3 less points than IU. But the shots they take they make. 50/70/37 on the season vs IU is at 46/72/32

Being desperate doesn’t confer any special status. We’re in this position because of past failures, and we’ll get what we get. Thank god for NIL or this job would be nearly untouchable coming off the Archie/Woodson era with their roster building. I hope we get somebody good, but honestly we’re so backwards we don’t deserve it. Woody was cooked last year. May was literally right there, ours for the taking, last year. But the “everybody gets 4 yr / he’s an alum” crowd—both in the administration and fan base—led to a situation where IU has no agency to do the right thing and instead puts us in this position to feel like we have to pull off the impossible to salvage the program. If Brad passes and Dusty does too, putting Mike Woodson ahead of the program last year when we could have got Dusty will look really, really bad. McCollum (43): D1. 23 games coached at a non power 5 D1 school. I get the argument for McCollum over a guy like McDermott and I'm not against McCollum. What he has done at the D2 level is incredible. He still has only coached 23 games of non power 5 basketball at the D1 level. Trying to frame D2 and D1 success as equal is disingenuous and I would disagree with that logic. cybergates, Uspshoosier and go iu bb 3

Creighton has been a power 5 school for 11 years and he's finished worse than 4th only 2 of those years (years 2&3 of joining the conference). Creighton is not a small basketball school. As someone pointed out, they were 6th in attendance last year per game. (Ahead of Indiana). cybergates and RaceToTheTop 2
