But that is not where I am.  I want a coach that understands Xs and Os and can get the best out of matchups.  And one that is a winner at IU.

Bob Knight's teams must have been not fun to watch.  Could have fooled me and I was there when they went undefeated.  They refused to lose.  Not fun to watch.

 We need a coach that is a winner.   It would be really nice if that coach did not have a lot of, uhm, issues that would possibly hurt the school's image...funding...and scare off recruits.  Would be nice if that coach would be able to change and adjust depending on the team makeup and the opponents.

In short form, I’d rather have both.

The  1000 page mark on this thread is rapidly approaching, and it probably just had some gas thrown on it. 

This thread started back in 2021 before Archie got $hit canned. So it covers two search’s for Brad “FING” Stevens. Let’s hope this one goes better.

I can see Dolson feeling the need to try and mend relationships with AAU coaches. It doesn't seem wise to mention any particular coach without them being signed though.

I don't think he said that on his call w/ AAU coaches, if he did there would be a firestorm right now.  There were two separate things from Trilly: Brad has two weeks to decide and the AAU coaches call.

Maybe these are pro Woodson coaches who he doesn’t want to lose as a pipeline.

Did the call with AAU coaches allude to BS or were these 2 separate things?

Both. He didn't say Brad Stevens name but he said the #1 target is not a current sitting head coach and they have two weeks to decide before moving on.

Understand where you’re coming from, but end of the day in the 5-man game of bball dominant players win. That is, with good coaching. I want to have a really good x’s and o’s coach, only Sampson and RMK fit that bill at IU, but of course the powerhouse programs recruit, land and win with elite players, KU, Duke, etc. don’t try to win with just “mental over physical,” that gets you only do far. Put yourself in the best position to win with the best players.

And the RMK reference there is kind of ironic. He had boatloads of top rated players. He wasn’t winning championships with smart non-athlete players, no program does. 

Get a really good x’s and o’s coach who is a proven winner — and recruits like there’s no tomorrow, builds programs, elite players, and plays modern bball for Christ’a sake. This isn’t the 1970’s, get long, athletic 2-way wings, shooters, speed, and yes, athleticism.

We're getting all excited until Brad Stevens is announced as the new assistant commissioner of the NBA or some other position that may or may not exist.

I don't think it gets past Dusty...but if for some reason it does...go slap a moral clause and get Beard. We don't have to go from option B to F. Simply my 2 cents.
