Feels like it happens in college football occasionally when the retiring or outgoing coach still coaches the bowl game and the new coach is already on the job. Can't remember it happening in hoops, though.

I’ve wondered this for a while, is anything about having BOT this involved or controlling AD decisions remotely normal? It feels like athletic departments that are dual successful you don’t hear about board people or former board people having anything to do with the AD unless there are really weird circumstances. 
 

I am sure it happens, but it just seems like IU is unwilling to let the athletic director do their job. The board should just be saying “aye” to the things the AD wants to do.

I assume our next coach will have to use the portal his first couple of years.  Ultimately, I'd prefer our next coach build the team through high school recruiting and only bring in a portal player as needed.  I would prefer the Purdue model of just one portal player in the past three years than what Woodson was doing.  Winning is the ultimate goal, but watching the players develop year over year is fun as well.

I think that’s what we’re seeing here. Remember last time we had board members, boosters and everyone else trying to be involved. So you either have to lead them away or tell them to stay out of it. I think both is happening here.

I can’t speak for RTZ obviously, but from the overall sense of his posts last few days, I would have figured those would have been reversed. Could just have been me taking his posts the wrong way, unless something has changed last few days, etc.
