The money we are going to pay Stevens has been raised by Boosters.

Oh, oh. Might this be an indication of reluctance on BS’s part? Although increase might also be an indication of willingness to throw the bank at him.

IU has reached out to Beard as of last week. I am not buying the stevens talk. I think IU will try but it is a pipedream. Although we were at the game Saturday, sitting in our suite eating and dolson and Cindy simon skodjt were talking Stevens. It was hard to hear exactly but his name was definitely the topic of conversation.

1) Stevens, 2) May and 3) Beard in that order...Beard has a chance if it makes it past Stevens and May.

Good luck watching this and not falling in love with Buzz! Holy smokes!

I never like Buzz tbh.  Maybe because when I first heard of him it was of him taking over for Crean and doing as well as Crean did and wanting to believe Crean was better.  Funny, but I carried that dislike every time he moved on.  I assumed those moves only proved I was right and that he was a tool and worthy of me not liking him.  Hearing a PC recently and then this changed my opinion instantly.

Whoever our next coach is, I want them to win a lot and also be such a great communicator who cares about people.  I love when during the handshake line a coach will stop and talk some with the opposing coach and/or will stop a player who just killed us or maybe missed a clutch shot and will encourage them.  I hate when the TV crew switches from this to show stupid fans after the game lol.  Crean would blow by, Woody seems not to care, Archie was too short for anyone to notice him but going back to RMK, sure many times he wanted to chew out his team but often I would see him stop someone to talk a little more.  Buzz seems like that kind of guy.

If he were to come I would be more worried he would not stay long and we might see a ceiling around the sweet 16.

There's so much to digest here.

First, "announcing I'm 100% classy?" While "hard to beat," that is awkward.

And foremost? You are apparently hanging out on your driveway wearing nothing but a tie and a silky jumper is just plain disturbing.

Like I said, freedom of movement, Stu.

You are gonna die on McCollum hill my friend!  :)

Address my concern - I don't give a rat's @$$ about style of play because if he's the real deal he will adjust his style of play immediately if and as warranted.

This is a guy that is/has

  • never been associated with any P5 program at any time,
  • has only been in any way associated with a D1 program for 23 games,
  • has never played against a ranked team,
  • has never beaten a team in the NET top 40,
  • is at a program with almost zero NIL (that's why he needed to bring a bunch of D2 players in),
  • is coaching at a school with no football
  • has never dealt with major boosters, agents, or media attention
  • has never managed a large staff or organization

So let's agree that he is an outstanding on-court technician and off-court culture-setter and motivator. Can't we also agree that Indiana will have innumerable choices of similarly talented on-court technicians, albeit ones with on-court success against the best teams in the nation, and ones who have success in addressing every single bullet point I listed?

Stuhoo, I promise I'm not ignoring your post.  At work and not good at navigating around some of the pop-ups I get on my phone when viewing the site.

Suffice it to say, we are focusing on different things when we are analyzing what we want in our new coach.

Everything you mentioned is true about McCollum.  I just don't think those things are as difficult to overcome as being a natural leader, gameplanning, and knowing how to coach and make adjustments on gameday.

A lot of coaches out there, even currently coaching in the Big Ten, who can check off the things on your list, but are drastically lacking the things on mine.
