General Coach Candidate News

I hope this decision isnt solely based on 10 year old technology. The programs that are successful the next 10-15 years will have identified what changed in the sport post Covid, attract transfers ect. We are at a pivot point and I hope Dolson recognizes this in seeking out the next coach.

Re: Brad Stevens.

Titus was joking but he’s also correct. The aura that hiring Stevens would make us championship contenders overnight isn’t the facts. He’s an incredible coach that any college would want but unrealistic expectations could hinder his desire to consider the job.

Granted, I want a coach that says, bring it on, in regards to expectations but much of the Brad Stevens hopium is greatly inflated.

He’d have his work cut out for him as well.

Anyway, hire Brad Stevens......

Hi I’m new here, but I think Titus was actually making a joke about saying that about IU when the same thing can actually be said about the Celtics.

I’ll never understand the obsession some have with getting an “IU guy.” First off, there aren’t former Hoosiers knocking it out of the park in college basketball. Second off, how many top schools have alums coaching them? Not very many. Bob Knight wasn’t even an IU guy when we hired him.

IU basketball can be anything we want it to be. There are multiple ways to win. We can win in the 21st century without an “IU guy.” We just need a good coach with a good coach. No one will care if our coach isn’t an “IU guy” as long as they’re winning.

There are examples though where someone from the program help continue the legacy.

Izzo was a long time assistant at MSU

Roy at UNC. Even though he had success at Kansas UNC finally decided they wanted one of their own.

Painter at Purdue. He had limited HC experience before coming on the PU staff to take over.

I am sure there are others.

There are some out there who succeed, but the majority of top coaches didn’t play at their universities. Roy Williams went to 4 final fours at Kansas before UNC hired him. If there was a proven IU guy out there right now I’d love to hire him. I’d be all for it. But that guy isn’t out there. We’d be sacrificing to hire an IU guy and I don’t want that. It might work out, but I don’t think that that’s a risk we can take right now. The time for an IU guy was after we fired Crean, imo. We have to go after someone proven.

I totally agree. I always wanted an IU guy, but what IU guy is killing it right now? I just want a guy that can get us back to the tourney every year and having a legit shot to win.

is this the same Goodman who saw "no way Archie Miller can fail at IU" 4 years ago?
To be fair, he isn't the only one who thought that. The vast majority of media pundits and many on this board thought he would succeed, including me.

I don’t know who the next coach will be but would any of you put up 10 million without knowing who the next coach will be?

Because the current coach is that bad? I don't have 10 million however if I had a bunch of money I would have given a good sum to move on from what we currently had
