General Coach Candidate News

My .02, haven’t thought most of this through because who really cares that much…

The consistent name throughout the past few weeks has been McCollum. That makes me think there was/is real mutual interest. Now sort of looks like DeVries sniffed around Iowa but maybe didn’t think he could win there/get enough NIL. So if McCollum really covets the Iowa job as much as people say, seems he’d be next in line. Wonder if it gives McCollum any hesitation for his predecessor at Drake passing on Iowa… curious if that means he gets more serious about IU this week. IMO, not saying any of this is what’s happening, just what initially makes sense to me… but if it’s DeVries we should probably know tomorrow and if no news tomorrow, I’d assume McCollum…

I know this statement about resources gets old, but we've got like 2-3x more for player payroll than Iowa.  Would be wild if we wanted Ben and he turned down the chance to spend that much money on the roster because he just loves Iowa.  We'll see, but Ben is Cig-like and could still be Scott's pick.

I don't know who would be better, Ben or DD, just guessing at the outcome.  Of course it may be the old mystery 3rd candidate...

Edit: I just saw the DD pack line defense video... I'm shifting my preference to Ben lol.

Yup, impossible to say, don’t know him that well. From interviews, he’s made clear it’s important that he goes somewhere he can finish first in the conference and have good NIL. Has talked a lot about how that’s critical for success. Maybe Iowa’s lesser budget is still enough for him to think he can win there. Or maybe this guy is a stone cold killer with balls of steel and wants to take on the biggest challenge in CBB… who knows how ambitious/legacy minded he is or not…

Our friend IUFB thinks it’s not Devries and it’s the mystery candidate, but not Stevens.

Apologies if I’m not allowed to share that.

Where did IUFB say this? I've not seen anything from him today.

Agreed with all of this - would add kudos to Iowa for recognizing that there is 2 outstanding coaches waiting for the job to open up - unlike us last year they read the writing on the wall and took the chance this year - I think we outbid them for one but 2nd place in these 2 is a bit of a chance game - both solid choices. Hopefully they are smart enough to up their NIL game and get on3 of them
