He seems to be a lead off double to me. We’re in scoring position with no outs.

Did IU start working back channels in Feb. and secretly land a coach? Or at least start back channels to narrow a pool of quality candidates that are ready to accept the job?

Or has IU done so little since early Feb. that they are just now engaging with candidates and having to fight Iowa for McCollum or Devries? 

I'd be shocked and saddened to learn if it's the latter. 

Well FWIW @IUGRAD06 says he knows for a fact McCollum and Dolson have been in touch since January. 

It's possible (likely even) Dolson has been spending the last year + courting Stevens, Donovan, whoever big whales.

I think Dolson, to his credit, also probably realized he should not put all eggs in that basket and engaged coaches in other tiers. McCollum has been a rising star for years in CBB - by all accounts he is an impressive guy and just went 30-3 and won the MVC. 

It's possible as time went on Dolson's priorities/agenda evolved and if reports are to be believed, ramped up with McCollum. 

McCollum and DeVries supposedly covet the Iowa job. Both are good coaches. I'd be pleased with either.

FWIW, because we're talking Devries. He seems like an unknown. He's been really good with his son there, and he was good this year at WVU. I just wonder if there's a ceiling. Would be more comfortable with a guy who's shown more.

Peegs rumor is he met with Iowa today but they can’t promise enough NIL for his liking and he’s starting to look in our direction (I’m summarizing)

Waaaay off topic but love the baseball reference! Cubs/Dodgers less than 12 hours away to start the season.

I'm with the others. Thank you for your insights. I'm also like most, this needs to be over soon. I'll be 50 in July. I remember the old days of IU basketball and would love to see it again

Me too.

He is the ultimate “lose the press release/win a truckload of games” hire.

Way more likely to grind and win at IU than almost any.

This is how good he is; he went 10-10 in the B1G 12 without one player that was as well thought of as eight of IU’s top nine players.

No idea if he’s IU’s guy but if he is it’s really good news.
