Brownell I don’t believe is a serious candidate despite media rumblings. At least he shouldn’t be a serious candidate. I’d be absolutely shocked if he was the guy. Trish from the top rope putting out three god-tier names and I am here for it. This is what my gut is telling me, that we have someone that is in a position where they can quietly give Scott an answer and the media runs wild with any name they can get their hands on because they are not getting much information.

You do when your last coach had 0 college basketball coaching experience going into the job and then proceeded to neglect other aspects of the job in year 4. He calculated his move and acted when the time was right. You swing for however and then at worst you get a coach like Brownwell that for me personally isn’t in my top 8 however whatever number you want to say he is 10, 11 25 on the list is 400 times better then a current coach that doesn’t respect the college basketball game or grind and doesn’t want to recruit. I don’t know much but I do know if Brownwell turns out to be the coach his but will be in the gym doing his job trying to make IU better. It won’t be lack of trying if he fails he will do everything he can to make IU relevant again Trish, Ryno6284, GloryDays and 1 other 3 1

But I can certainly see the TV suits demanding Indiana over Northwestern.

And for those who want to point to Allen’s buyout, that was a markedly different situation-the donors weren’t coming up with the $15 million then so they could come up with another huge bag in order to pursue a “name” or “elite” coach, they signed a coach who was making less than $1 million a year in his previous job. If I were a big donor and Dolson came to me needing a bag for a buyout of a coaching candidate, it would need to either be a less expensive, or more impressive, name than Brownell or Cronin, or their specific buyouts would have to be negotiated significantly lower. Isn't there a clause in Cronin's contract that can lower it by a significant amount? That's what Rabjohn's (who I assumed heard it from Eric) said. I'm unsure if it's an IU specific clause or something else, but that was a pretty clear thing that Rabby didn't talk around that he put out there.
