General Coach Candidate News

Stevens was never a real thing, i feel bad for those who believed it. I understand wanting to believe it, we are fans after all, but it was never going to happen.

Mccollum shows every sign of having what it takes to be a great coach. the biggest tell to me is that other coaches (May, Mccasland, Buzz and others) actually call him for his thoughts on their system and how he'd improve it. when successful coaches are calling him for Xs and Os advice, thats big. i would bet for him to win big wherever he lands next, and i'd prefer it's at IU instead of Iowa.

But again, takes 2 to tango. will see if he wants the job. if he goes Iowa, i would happily take Devries as our next coach. I love Alan Huss, he will win big somewhere too, just not a candidate this go around for IU for whatever reason. hope we aren't here again in 4-5 years, but if we are Huss should be at the top of the list then and wants the job

Our list of candidates now being seemingly identical to freaking Iowa doesn't exactly give me a warm and fuzzy feeling.

I have heard they bought a house in the Center Grove district so their daughter could be a part of the girl's soccer team there which I believe was ranked #1, He has a former player who works there so there is some familiarity.

That he and Dolson met from Thanksgiving to February figuring out how they wanted to do this and keep it quiet till mid-March.

Forget flight tracking, someone start combing seven figure Center Grove properties that have been sold in the last couple months!

In all seriousness, if there was a verbal agreement in place, I think it's reasonable they'd wait to sign a contract until they're ready to announce, for FOIA purposes.

That having been said, I don't think we'd be going to the trouble of reportedly vetting guys like Chris Beard if we had a verbal agreement in place with Brad. So who knows...

On the flip side, he gets very intelligent guys who are also good at basketball. Since they're not as highly ranked, they probably don't have much of the egos and hangers-on to deal with.

How would he do with players who are better at basketball but not as intelligent? How would he do with all the crap that comes with high level recruits?

I love your "how would he do with players who are better at basketball but not as intelligent".  Lol, made me laugh.  I can relate to that when thinking about some of our team players.

Another McCollum thought,  maybe he would prefer NOT coaching at Iowa because like Dusty said about coaching where your family lives, if he doesn't do well, it's hard for family members to stay in their hometowns.  It isn't the fishbowl that is scary, it's knowing your family becomes an outcast if somethings go wrong.

Iowa may not be a fishbowl like IU, but, those Hawkeyes are pretty vocal about Fran, his wife and their kids.  They would be the same way with McCollum too.  Might be easier to go elsewhere to coach.

Oh I most definitely think we would.  THey do not want to be caught with no work being done in case things fall through.

Awesome... now we can't even get Brownell? This is beyond comical...

I would relish a Brownell rejection. It would be embarrassing if IU actually contacted him, but I want nothing to do with his painful mediocrity.

Let's see how football does this year with a harder schedule. It looks good so far but it's only been a year. If dolson flops on this hire after the Woodson flop who knows but it isn't good.

Damn, son... you're busy peeing in everyone's cornflakes these days... have you posted anything positive in the last 6 months?

Who's your choice to lead the basketball program?

I have the listing, it's still pending.

If the person hasn't signed, it would be bad business to not be vetting other candidates. That was what Dolson was accused of not doing last time.

Interesting.

I agree that they might be vetting other fallback candidates. I just meant specifically Beard as a guy I doubt they'd be vetting, as he seems like a last resort fallback. But I could be wrong!

Does not all the talk of NDAs and such lead to the belief that it is a big fish they are trying to reel in?  Would there be such things if they were going with a mid major guy or something like that?

I asked my SIL who is an attorney in town if they would use NDA's? She said for a deal this big it would be bad practice to not use them.

I asked what the penalty would be and she said termination and they usually put a percentage on it like 20% of the contract that they would try to litigate.

Beard ain't getting it lol

Question, and I will preface it with the fact that I would rather not have him, but if I got down to Brownell, do you think Beard would come into play?

I'm certainly not vehemently opposed to Mccollum.  For those of you really pushing him, can you tell me why you see his success at Drake differently from Archie's success at Dayton.  I see similarities that are my only concern with going that route again.

For me, it's that he doesn't kind of or usually win. He dominates. Think about how hard it is to go undefeated in a season against any competition. He's got the undefeated season, 2 1- loss seasons, and multiple <5 loss seasons, including the current one in his move to D1.

I believe if you can coach, you can coach.
