WayneFleekHoosier Posted March 11 Posted March 11 Reneau is really good. I would try to keep him. I can’t second this strong enough. I really like him on and off the court. I could see why he might want a fresh start but I think he’ll be tough to replace. Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners mobile app lillurk, HoosierTrav and J34 3

Just basic stuff, lineup related. Analytic related. If we want to be top tier like Alabama, Duke, Etc, etc, etc you gotta have the talent and the coach. Painter is an incredible coach. Knows the Xs and Os with the best. He still gets great players. But he’s capped. He lucked into Edey being generationally elite. But he can’t recruit that level. If he did, he’d be top 10 every year. So, I want the XO guy for sure, but I want to still have a chance at top talent. Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners mobile app He tried recruiting higher level talent. It didn't work out well for him because they didn't fit his system very well. So he started recruiting to his system and really started doing well.
Scotty R Posted March 11 Posted March 11 Instead of worrying about being able to get 5 star players I want a coach who can identify and develop talent that fits into his system. McCollum probably won't land many 5 stars at least at first but I would have confidence he can get guys who are a notch below them. I see no reason he couldn't get talent on the level of Purdue right now those players would fit McCollum's system. I don't look at all the advance metrics but some math guy at IU guy said the lineup of 1 big with Goode,Leal, Galloway and Rice has a better offensive rating than Duke has. I guess what I am saying is that you don't have to have a roster of 5 star players to be effective. Ryno6284, RoadRage, BGleas and 1 other 4

Just one example, but I think it supports the theory that if you can coach, you can coach. The other stuff can be figured out, especially with resources. Yea, I remember Alabama fans being very unhappy with the hire and thought he would fail in 2 years. BGleas and cybergates 1 1
lillurk Posted March 11 Posted March 11 I actually think we should give a fair second chance to anyone the new staff is worth keeping Ctf9, Artie86 and OGIUAndy 3

Damn, that is a lot of people I guess In my defense.....I wasn't on this board when Miller got hired. Also I think despite my childish behavior with some posters, I've never had any kind of hullabaloo with you.

I do notice that Painter goes after top players though, he just can’t afford them with PU’s mid-NIL. I also know he is always pushing for more NIL. Sometimes he puts out a narrative to mask some of their recruiting struggles. He would take a few 5*s if he could get them.

But it's not like Mike Woodson was a champion recruiter. If it is to be McC, then who be puts on his staff and their recruiting connections will be very critical IMO. Good thing is that's not nearly as important as it used to be. He still needs to recruit the portal kids, weed out those who just want a payday vs those who will buyin. Thats what plagued Woodson.
