There would definitely be some challenges but  got to say I wouldn't be mad at this hire - again I'd have some concerns but more I read about/watch this guy the more I'm ok with taking the chance:

and finally you and I agree sir ! haha but yes 100 percent. I would argue that a Stevens, May, Drew hire would need to win 22+ in year 1 and at least 5th-6th or higher in the Big Ten to justify the Money that would be spent in NIL and Coaching Salary.  

Beard would have the shortest leash hell that guy might have win the Big Ten in year 1 to keep people from running him out of town.

Prepare for another week of no news or rumblings, the team still has the conference tournament and potentially the NCAA tournament. There will be no post season tournament that isn't the March Madness one.

Agree with all of your points Stu, and I completely expressed myself incorrectly here. 

I was trying to make two completely different points. 

1.) I think Dusty did an amazing job this year. 

2.) I just hope that IU gets a coach who is good at Xs and Os. If IU does, that coach will do well from day 1. Dusty's ability to coach has allowed him to take a team of parts and adjust to that team to win at a pretty high level this year. 

It'll be interesting to see how well he'll do next year with a full year to prepare and having his first recruiting class already in place. I think he'll do really well because he's a superior coach.

Comparing McCollum to D1 coaches like Dusty and Archie isn't really a fair comparison and is disingenuous. The guy is just getting started at this level. It would be nice to find some sort of stat where we see an established D2 coach's first year coaching stats in D1. I'm sure there's such a thing but I'm betting it's extremely difficult to find because it's so rare. I think maybe Bruce Pearl is a really good comparison but Pearl had some sort of D1 experience prior to his 9 year stint in D2. Both of them were really good coaches in D2. Pearl didn't win multiple championships while at USI and didn't have a start like McCollum did during his first year in D1. But again, both of them were really good D2 coaches. 

I've said this once already but this guy is a unicorn. I'm not sure if he'll make any noise in the tournament this year because the talent level is a dramatic shift compared to the MVC. But his team will at least get the chance to compete. And next year he'll be coaching D1 basketball, most likely will have a winning season, and a team prepared to play every night.

Mccollum was always going to get an interview, that's been the case for a while now. Some question him, which is understandable, but Scott really, really likes him and thinks he'd do well here. Has to be a 2-way street - meaning he would have to accept the job if offered - but Scott is talking to him

.....I'm perfectly fine with being "fed" rumblings throughout this long, slow process. Those things keep my interest peaked and as well as fuel throughout the day. Keep it coming. I, for one, don't expect an announcement anytime soon, but the periodic "check-ins" (one way or the other) from you guys are appreciated.
