I have a feeling if it’s not ‘your guy’ then there are going to be a lot of guys here writing off the new coach.

Darn Straight. Early & Often. Loud & Proud. If this thing starts moving side ways in year 2 or 3, forget hiring a GM of basketball. Better hire SSQ or similar for PR because I will be coming.

Actually from what I have heard that some fans weren't happy with the RMK hire

What is so funny Certified. The IU fans were used to the up tempo Hurrying Hoosiers and didn't like  the slow pace and defensive oriented style of RMK. It didn't take long for the fans to change when they saw it win big.

I choose to ride or die with this info.  Goodman can suck a d***.
Make it a donkey "d***" and I'll totally agree with you! Goodman (and most "experts") reminds me of most politicans and management at many places I've worked. Vague and indefinite so they can't be blamed later but they all seem to have more wisdom in hindsight than foresight.

If that were the case, not firing Woodson last year and hiring May may have been in the final nail in the coffin for Indiana Men’s Basketball.

You will still be here watching and hoping it changes just like the last 2 coaching hires that you hated to the core at the time of them hiring them.  All of us will be here hoping it changes no matter the coach

Boring basketball should be a strike for candidates. I want basketball that’s fun to watch. Too often during the Archie and Woodson eras even wins were brutal watches.

If you are talking about offense being boring so that would eliminate Beard and TJO since their offense isn't very good.

A few days ago twice I tagged @RoadToZion with a post specifically asking if his “it’s Brad” posts refer to Stevens or Brownell.

He's been on the board since then but has not answered.

While I don’t know how strong Road to Zion’s  source is, at this point I am pretty confident that he is flat out predicting that Brad Brownell with be the next coach of the Hoosiers.

Or, the two coaches sharing a name has allowed him to post what he has, and he doesn't want to lose that cover.

I think you're massively overthinking this. Is Brad Brownell really going to get someone excited enough to post about it like he has?

There’s some concerns with me regarding Ben, that’s revolves around style of play. Consider these rankings in the B1G / P4 basketball.

337 in D1 in 3PT ATTEMPTS / GAME

363 in D1 IN FGA ATTEMPTS / GAME

364 in D1 in PACE

OFFENSIVE RATING - 51

DEFENSIVE RATING - 31

That doesn’t get me excited. It doesn’t sound fun to watch although I watched the game today and it was pretty fundamental.

I'm in on McCollum (personally I go Stevens, May, Otz, McCollum), but this is a good point because the lack of threes and shooters with both Archie and Woodson have been maddening. Can't really find stuff on his D2 team's stats outside of going each individual year on the team website, but for share of 3 pointers on Torvik (labelled as 3PT Rate on the individual team pages) here's what we have for the main candidates this year and where Indiana is right now. Looks like 3PT Share is a percent compared to long 2s, close 2s, and dunks for each team. Results aren't a defense of any candidate, just for comparison sake since it's an interesting point

https://www.barttorvik.com/teampbp.php?sort=10&year=2025&conlimit=

Creighton/McDermott - 49.7, 8th in NCAA (highest power conference team)

Michigan/May - 42.5, 90th (3rd of B10 teams)

Baylor/Drew - 40.9, 133rd

Mississippi/Beard - 40.2, 151st

Clemson/Brownell - 38.8, 175th

Drake/McCollum - 36.9, 226th

Iowa State/Otz - 36.5, 245th

Indiana/Woodson - 33.6, 316th

Coaches get at least 4 years here and then $10 million to go away. Not exactly a bad gig. If a coach is too afraid to come here because he wants more than 4 years to build a contender then I have no interest in him.

I am not talking about the administration but the fans turning on coaches at the first site if trouble.

Think Iowa will get him, and he'll be very good. Am amazed at what he's done this year; basically took a roster of DII players and won the Valley. Winning isn't boring.

An alternative take away is that D2 and even D3 basketball is really good too. Top D2 teams have always competed with and beaten the bottom of Div1. Today I think we can safely say the very tippy top of D2 is good enough to handily win a mid major conference.

I’m not sure McCollum was handicapped by bringing his old players along.

I actually liked the Archie hiring, the Woodson hire was irresponsible. But perhaps the hiring of Woody does indeed indicate the status of Indiana Basketball and could be that it no longer has the “IT” factor despite what fans want to believe. We’ll find out when the news is released.

There is a difference between slow and boring. UConn was in the 300s in pace last year, but I don't think anyone would say they were boring.

The issue with McCollum is experience at this level. Not style of play.

I think style of play is a huge issue at this level.

His DEff outstrips his OEff by a fair margin. And both Schwartz’s Indiana State and Devries’ Drake had more efficient offenses last year in the same conference.

That’s not to say he doesn’t run an efficient offense but a few data points to consider. My guess is his bread in butter is that defense. Just a guess tho…

Oh, he’s definitely defense first. He’s on record that part of the offensive pace is to protect the defense.
