I see Love as Devonte Green with a quicker first-step and a worse attitude. If that somehow equates to making IU a better basketball team, then terrific, but I'm extrememly skeptical. I prefer he take his journey of self-discovery (and his 35% FG shooting) somewhere/anywhere else. IMO, this is a high risk, high reward option. If IU is taking 4-5 from the portal as it seems is likely, then I think they can take a flyer on one "developmental" type guard and/or a big. I can see the appeal of having a player that talented as the "developmental" guard. I haven't seen much from Woody to indicate that he would put up with nonsense or fail to bench him/kick him to the curb if he doesn't live up to the standard. I'd also think that part of the recruiting pitch would be similar to that Woody used on TJD, ie. focusing on the areas of improvement. If Love commits after such a pitch and Woody feels like it has a chance of working, then I'm onboard. J34 and NVFalcons1990 2 Quote

"We can’t keep feeling sorry for ourselves. We've got to draw the line on what we want to do as far as finishing the season. There is literally no choice for guys to do but to fight and every time we step out on the floor we've got to fight.” IMO, the issues at North Carolina weren't so much a player thing...they were a coaching issue. It might be why they were capable of overcoming Hubert Davis in a span of a few games in the tournament but always struggled in a full regular season slate. And the above quote I certainly couldn't have ever seen coming from DeVonte Green. MemphisHoosier, NVFalcons1990, thebigweave and 2 others 4 1 Quote

RaceToTheTop Posted March 29, 2023 Posted March 29, 2023 In terms of Love, I assume the 'attitude' issues were about the number of shots he took? I know of no off court issues. And in terms of the number of shots a guy takes, coaches can control that. If a guy is killing you with his shot bulk, that's a coaching issue. You can't shoot shots you aren't on the floor to make. Not to try to make a big deal about it but on a day like today which isn't great outside but you will find Woody, Armond Hill, and Scott May all at Pfau golf course playing 18 and smoking cigars. Is he really going to put in the work that a 45-year-old Musselman, Oates, or whoever is going to? That is the part that scares me. Lets not confuse effort with accomplishment. (granted those to dudes have accomplished some things, although a bit underwhelming for Oats this year). I don't know if Woodson's "son, I'll get you to the NBA" schtick will sell, but we'll see. Banks fits that description but he’d have to improve his offense a lot in the offseason. I definitely see that kind of lineup getting a lot of run. Still think we need to add a rim protector though. Not sure if Sparks fits that bill? Still happy we've added him, think he will be a nice rotation player. BannerVille 1 Quote

I'm not convinced its going to happen. Let's see how this money spends.. Sparks is a feelgood story that might workout great. I mean, what can you really expect if you are recruiting a transfer big that's likely slotted into the backup spot to begin with with a chance to earn more. So it makes sense. Good for him, good for us. BUT we need so much to be something more than and hope and a dream. Some of these transfer options are just bleh. Was really hoping the staff had 2 or 3 aces up their sleeve but it's looking more like that isn't the case. I feel pretty good about Shedrick for some reason. But in general if you take a middling bench, with middling recruits, and middling transfers you are likely to expect middling results. OK let's pump some sunshine so Dr. Grump can turn his frown upside down. LOL I'm with you. Shedrick and Sparks help our frontcourt. But they have a long way to go before I'm pleased. I'll take guys like Love, Timberlake, Reeves, Ledlum, Knecht, etc. They need backcourt help (Mainly 2's and 3's bad). IF IU is in the top 10-15 in NIL, then I expect them to land a few of these dudes. I'll be extremely upset if they don't to be honest. There is no excuse they can't. 2-3 starting spots up to grab. X and Malik IMO are the only guys I'd label starters. Sorry, Galloway is a reserve on a really good team. Quote

(2) none of Woodson’s players have actually played in the NBA yet. (3) JHS was a 5 star recruit and largely is a projected first rounder of potential. His actual numbers this year weren’t great. 13.5 ppg on a really inefficient 49% TS. It’s not like he turned some diamond in the rough into a pro. Did Archie “get Romeo to the NBA”? I mean, one of the coaches you mentioned has a top 5 projected pick. Muss has a projected lottery pick. He’s been a medicine recruiter thus far. “I’ll get you to the NBA” isn’t a magic potion Woodson has in the back of his pocket. Muskie for three and NVFalcons1990 2 Quote
