RaceToTheTop Posted March 8, 2023 Posted March 8, 2023 Not a fit for IU, but worth noting that on the name alone that Messiah Jones of Wofford has entered the portal. Four year undersized power forward (6'6") at Wofford. In four years there, averaged 9 points and 5 1/2 rebounds in 20 minutes. lillurk 1 Quote
FightFor6 Posted March 8, 2023 Posted March 8, 2023 Chris Ledlum is an interesting name out of Harvard. 6'6" wing with scoring ability. Not a great shooter but would bring another dimension to the offense. lillurk 1 Quote

Just don't understand why a guy shooting 29% from three has taken 136 of them. Anyway, I always like to see what guys from lower D1 have done against power 5 competition. Not a whole lot to go on as he's been limited in that respect, but here goes This year his only P5 game was against Kansas. 35 minutes, 6/18 from the field, 2/9 from three, 3/4 fts, 9 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 turnovers, 17 points in 35 minutes. It was a 68-54 loss, so he was playing against Kansas starters pretty much the whole way. Despite the 6/18 shooting, scoring 17 points and getting 9 boards is decent. But that's really the extent of his games against power 5 teams. He missed a lot of last year, did not play in 2020-21 (I don't recall....did the Ivy League cancel their season that year?), and his freshman year of 2019-20 he wasn't a full time player and that was probably too long ago to be relevant. Out of high school, 247 ranked him as the 96th best incoming recruit. lillurk 1 Quote

I'd like a sniper as much as the next person, but we have multiple holes to fill with the amount of scoring that is leaving. Stuhoo, RaceToTheTop and woodenshoemanHoosierfan 3 Quote

This guy is a scorer but he certainly isn't efficient. It appears he loves to shoot 3s even though he only hits them at a rate of about 29% - and that wasn't against B1G quality opponents. Quote

For a shooter, Newman isn't doing all that well. He is hitting only 31% from 3-point range and only 36% overall. Starting Morton, whose shooting percentages are similar to Newman's, was a reasonable decision. Now Newman seems to be the starter. Both are getting plenty of playing time. Quote

I don't like the 5 attempts per game at that %. On the flip side, the guy was 56% from inside the arc on 10 attempts. Question is, can the staff put him in a position to do what he does well and limit the low efficiency shots? I think they could. Quote

We are losing a point guard, a 6'7'' shooter and two bigs from the starting lineup. Presumably Malik Reneau fills one of holes left by Race and TJD. With Xavier Johnson returning, we will have an experienced point guard. If Geronimo returns, he is someone who has demonstrated at times an ability to score. Banks? Maybe he will get more playing time. Hopefully, the coaching staff will be able to land players who fill the other holes--a 3 who can shoot and another big. Beyond those, sure--get a scorer who isn't much of a shooter. I suppose TJD could be described that way. Quote
