I dont think you can ever have too many 6'6" to 6'9" guys on a team.  Problem with both DeLoach(zero 3 pt registered attempts according to ESPN) and Sparks(career 17% 3 point shooter) is they don't shoot 3's or if they do its such a small amount.  Ledlum is a career 29.4% 3 point shooter(3 years), Ware 27.3% 3 point shooter(1 year).

If all three committed to IU to play the 3/4 spot, where would our 3pt range come into play?

Hopefully Knecht. I encourage anyone to watch some film with him. I really do think he could be a decent scorer off the bench at the NBA level.

Hopefully we can get another 3pt shooter beside Knecht.  WOuld like to not rely on one guy to provide a bulk of our 3pt scoring.

Agree. Maybe Galloway can take a step forward with volume and who knows, maybe Gunn or Cupps off the bench.

I’m saying he is still in. He has known of Ware for a few days now and hasn’t backed off.

He must believe Woodson and the vision for him with the staff.

will be interesting

He could just be waiting to see if Ware commits to IU.  There's just rumors right now.

In theory (because they haven't been confirmed as playing for IU next year):

  • Ware is a real three point option - far more so than Trayce (lol)
  • Ledlum is a better three point shooter than Race
  • X was 38% two seasons in a row. His return adds three point shooting.

If we got Knecht? We would most certainly have more three point options than last year.

El Ellis from Louisville would be intriguing .....

lol fair to say Ware would be far more than TJD so I'll give you that.  I guess glass half full an improvement over Race for Ledlum is an improvement.

Knecht and X over 37% with improvements/upgrade over TJD and Race from a 3 pt perspective makes total sense

I don't think you have to pull the offer, I just think DeLoach won't consider IU anymore when they have gotten two kids who play the same position. Why would you want to come to a school when you're a backup?

Because staffs lie to kids all the time.   We won’t play you at the 4 if you come here.  Gets on campus and the kid is playing the 4.    Happens all the time.

We are also losing Kopp, JHS, and Bates who were far and away our highest volume 3 point shooters last year (and all shot at least 33% from behind the arc).  Getting Knecht would be a big help, but if we don't get another shooter beyond him we will still be relying on unproven shooters to become actual threats (Ledlum, Ware, Banks, etc.).  If they can't shoot 30% from deep, no one will guard them and we will run into spacing issues.  Ideally, we get two knockdown 3-point shooters in the portal.

Could be. I just think he already knows as he has been communicating with him and others on the team. Those guys all know what the others are doing and if so, he hasn’t backed off yet.

maybe he does once official but I don’t believe so.

my guess is the staff sees it as Malik/Sparks and Ware/DeLoach.  That is 20 min each give or take pending fouls, injuries etc. I could argue that if we don’t get DeLoach then we still need another versatile big.

Two long, bouncy bigs + two sturdy, low post move, lefty bigs would be an embarrassment of riches.

Of course, currently we have the two low post guys and zero long, bouncy bigs.

Versatile defensively, maybe.  Offensively, not at all as DeLoach scores from the post and put backs.

If this plays out like many of us want/think, are we going to start the biggest lineup in the country?

6’3”, 6’6”, 6’6”, 6’9”, 7’0”

If Edey comes back, I would think that would still belong to Purdue.  I calculated Purdue’s total inches with Edey, Furst, Morton, Loyer, and Smith and that cones up to 397” and what you have listed is 396”.

Is Furst not transferring or was that just a rumor?

One of those four does not fit in that conversation. I'd be surprised if Sparks gets more than 10 minutes a game next year. I don't think the staff is counting on him to make large contributions.
