WAY too into pop culture for me.  On Twitter, calls everyone he disagrees with a "dumbass," and I don't think he knows much.  When he has Rick Venturi on, it's must listen radio; but by himself?   I just don't care at all about small towns in southwest Indiana or the seemingly 50% of his time spent on non-sports stuff.   I agree he's a nice guy most of the time.  So are most people...including Dakich.  That said, every show in Indy....to me....has serious holes.   Big Joe?  A complete buffoon.  They let him talk entirely too much.  Query and Schultz?  Too much "schtick."    Dakich is what Dakich is.  I can't disagree with many of the complaints anymore; but I still agree with him more often than not.   I think the radio here is generally "company line" except Dakich; which may be why he's suspended.

He teases himself and others in jest and doesn't take himself to seriously which is what I like. I wish he tuned down the pop culture a bit but overall he is great and the best show in Indy by far and the only one I will listen to.

After listening to him rant and “call out” LeBron and his “posse” and other “snowflakes” about the China situation, I wondered if Emmis would pull the plug on him out of possible backlash in this PC era...I don’t know if the suspension is in any way related to this rant a week ago but wouldn’t be shocked. At one point he said something like I don’t care if I get in trouble for this or not but it’s what I believe in...

To be fair, he was hardly the only one calling out LeBron and others for their stance, or lack thereof on the China situation.

Send him to Florida! 'Florida man' is always looking for a new front face--he's sorta like the rotating famous comedians playing Col Sanders in the KFC commercials.

Idk he may be good in a position like that. At least I believe he would truly try to do what he says he'd try to do. That in and of itself makes him better than a majority that run for office. Whether he has any real qualifications to do the job is certainly debatable but there's precedence for a figure like him and many times it has worked out.

I'm far from the biggest Dakich fan but it's not like the bar is currently set very high for the mayor of Indy. For better or worse, we would always know where to find him at least.

When you are mayor you are responsible for getting things done--garbage collection, public safety, etc. You can't just shoot off your mouth. Most talk radio hosts who enter politics go into a legislative body where they aren't responsible for much.  Even if Dakich had a realistic chance of winning (which is dubious), it doesn't seem to be a good match for him.

Hey all,

  • I noticed (and much appreciate) that this has in NO way turned into a political pissing match.
  • People come to IU Basketball threads for a "politics-free" zone. In my opinion, it's awfully nice to have a forum where that is the case!
  • So, we'll keep this thread open, but please refrain from turning it into a discussion of politics or politicians in general, or beyond Dakich.

Thanks

After seeing Dakich's tweet about his HUGE ANNOUNCEMENT that apparently deals with tomorrow's game, I went to his page. Under his profile, he calls himself a "Senior NFL Insider"

Adam Schefter. Chris Mortensen. Ian Rappaport. Jay Glazer. Dan Dakich.

Yep -- they're all pretty much interchangeable.

(BTW, I dusted off this thread and posted here because I didn't want to gum up the IU-PU thread).

Why would IU have wanted a MAC coach who had a .500 conference record?

I mean, John Groce won at Ohio and now at Akron.  Did much better than Dakich at Bowling Green.  How did that work out for Illinois?

Greg Doyle slices, dices, and destroys Dan Dakich. People that tried to stand by Dakich have had enough; Doyle considers him a guy that used to be evocative, but is now just plain awful.

He says so in an Indy Star paywall article that is conveniently posted with no paywall on Yahoo:
