I'm a Bucky fan and Mgbako would seem to be a really good fit for Buckyball. But there's a problem for Mgbako and A&M, who likely spent a ton of their NIL budget on Mgbako; he had surgery for a Jones foot fracture in September. The news articles say that he's expected back by late November, but my understanding is that Jones fractures can be extended recovery period injuries. EDIT: Jones fractures with surgery are estimated 3-6 month recovery minimum. Because of the injury Mgbako isn't working on his handle and motor/conditioning, both of which need marked improvement. His tenure at A&M has all the current markings of a very expensive whiff.8 points -

He did at times. He also didn’t get any love from the officials. Got elbowed in the face when a kid created space and no call and when IU was up 40 he got pushed down and got called down the foul. If that’s a closer game that’s an offensive foul every time5 points -

Surrounding him with 4 shooters like we have would either lead to him scoring 20ppg or a bunch of open shots on the perimeter (assuming the new staff could teach him to read the double team). Almost every team in the B1G had to double him in the post. I like Reneau and wish a guy like him could’ve stayed, but I fully support the staff getting the guys they wanted in here. Also, until further evidence I’m chalking up any attitude/effort issues with guys like Tucker and Mbako to the lack of coaching from the old staff. Several of us have pointed out all offseason that some of these guys are players and it’s going to be a little bittersweet seeing them succeed other places. Most of those guys weren’t a “Lander situation.”5 points -

Maybe. This would be my positive spin: MM can shoot, but he can't defend/put in consistent effort, plus he's a toxic dude. Glad he's gone, he's a culture killer. MR I don't really have an issue with. Though he's not much of a fit for CDD's offense and he may have irreversible Woody-itis after three years here. Fine to see him go. Tucker I honestly don't know. I think Woody's bad program was the worst possible fit for him and he'll probably do well. I know he and his parents were upset last year, but I can't blame them. I saw Kanaan had a pretty good stat line vs. Boston College (6/11 FG, 4/7 3PT, 19 PTS, 1 Asst, 2 Steals, 1 TO). Quite the change here! I'm sure Rice will be pretty good. It's wild how bad our former coach was...5 points -

It’s funny/sad people gave Woody the mantra that he ran 80’s NBA ball with personnel and emphasis. Then, He and his Twitter army team ran counter to that notion for an off-season or 2 only to be proven that these claims were 100% correct all along. Everyone around the program not directly within the program discussed this for 2 years hoping and praying for a change. And we got, “Nah, I know better”. Absolutely. It comes down to coaching ability. For many years, RMK did well with less talent in the pre-NIL era. Sure, he had talent but he proved that he didn't need 5-star talent to win. Cig is doing more with less even in the NIL era. Woodson (and Fickell) appear to have done less with more. NIL allows mediocre coaches to lurk in the shadows for just a bit longer.3 points -

No problem not seeing eye to eye on MM. Just passing along some things I've heard from people around the program. Stuhoo's description is probably better than mine ("toxic" might be a bit much). The right coach and team can probably get him on track. It will be a bit annoying we'll have fairly constant discussion on former players doing well, plus "analysis" of all the coaches we "could" have hired. Good news is I'm pretty confident CDD won't care about any of that and I think he's a good coach who will ultimately succeed here.3 points

Agree to disagree. Watch him on Miami this year. Watch him at Montverde on loaded teams. He’s been mislabeled because he was trying to carry the load on poor constructed teams with awful spacing. I also think he’s a coachable kid. Consider what the prior staff was trying to do. Not a fair judgement. And a good kid. Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners mobile app2 points -

Our current team with Reneau and Tucker would have such a higher ceiling. Bummer it wasn’t the vision. But new culture means something and you just never know how things would go. Reneau was always so underrated by Indiana fans. Similar to how TJD was treated until his breakout. Say for example, sub them for Ristic/Ancimovic. Oh well. We roll. Let’s see what happpens. Ristic might be something eventually. Idk. Maybe DeVries will eventually “Moren” me. With IUWBB I’m a “Trust in Moren”. I haven’t been that way with an Indiana basketball coach ever in my adult lifetime. I want that kinda faith back.2 points -

I guess it depends on what you mean by "more with less" as far as Cignetti is concerned. As far as ratings out of HS and even the transfer portal are concerned? Absolutely. As far as actual talent? Not really, this team has multiple All American players and NFL prospects on it, probably the most of any IU time in a long time, maybe ever. Cignetti and the staff seem to be very good at evaluating and developing the players, as well as using them in ways that takes advantages of their strengths while masking their weaknesses.2 points -

I'm with Pagoda. Malik, Myles Rice, and Tucker are super-nice kids. They'll be an asset to any program and were unimaginably misused at IU. Mgbako? To me he's not a 'nasty' kid, but he is kinda weird and immature with very questionable judgment, and it would take a really good leader and even better locker room to get him to be a positive asset to a team. Toxic? Maybe. A negative? Yup.2 points

And I watched the first half and the player is the same. I’m surprised they are so committed at a full court press, she adds little value to it, she’s made several turnovers. Still runs like a potted plant. A few of the turnovers weren’t all on her, could have been a good play maybe, teammate wasn’t quite ready. 0-4 3s first half. Still runs like the knees don’t bend and just really slow. I’m with you in that coach moren actually got a lot out of her vs what is really there.2 points

Since refs have to work 4 trillion times a year, DJ Painter Carstensen (big bald) is reffing high flying IU Indy, I hope they go so fast he passes out. Edit: They're catching their breath by taking a 10 minute review for a ball that might've gone off a fingernail. I kid you not, they had the review screen inside a giant metal briefcase that the nuclear button would be in.
