  1. I actually know about Liberty -- I live in Virginia. I was just saying that I never thought I'd see the day in which Liberty is considered better than IU (more in an ironic sense). ... Why is everybody so quick to try to prove (or try to prove) everybody wrong -- or prove they "know" more than someone else? G-damn!

  2. That statement by McRobbie tells you everything you need to know. I guess we should be proud that we have integrity, and I am, but at some point the mockery of the whole NCAA system is a joke and things need changed big time. Our priorities were well stated in that quote. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

“His legacy will be one of strong and competitive athletics programs and teams that play by the rules, a pervasive commitment to compliance and integrity, a commitment to excellent academic performance, record fund-raising and magnificent new or renovated facilities.” This is the statement from McRobbie. This is what I am talking about regularly when it comes to the things behind the scenes that is being pushed and why Glass is doing his job. It’s also why I have concerns no matter who is in the position. You can plainly see what he wants and what he is concerned about. There is no commitment to winning. This why for the last couple of years I have said in the Fire Glass thread be careful what you wish for. You got it. Here is what he is up against. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

  8. Fellas, the Big Ten is a brutal league. It has been for as long as I've been alive. We're not going undefeated in the Big Ten. Nobody is. There will be nights we look great and nights we look awful. When we look awful, it doesn't mean we should fire a coach or athletic director and when we look great it doesn't mean we're contenders. Upsets happen every week. At the end of the day, the Big Ten is either the best or second best basketball conference in the country year in and year out. I think we'll make the NCAA tournament and be a tough out when we get there. People panicking over close, ugly wins really should put today's game in perspective. That was Indiana a year or two ago. The emotional over reactions to every play, every half, and every outcome are exhausting. Nobody who matters looks at any part of a program through that microscope.

  15. I think people overreacted in regards to the OT win. We played bad and still gutted it out. Nebraska isn’t “bad” they just have zero depth so if one of their guys has a bad night or gets in foul trouble it’s basically game over for them. If neither of those two things happen they are going to take it to you which Purdue found out first hand. If you think beating Nebraska in OT is embarrassing ask UNC how they feel right now after booting one to Wofford at home.

  16. My completely uninformed opinion: Trayce tests the waters this year, gets feedback, and returns. He develops a killer jump shot and gets physically stronger. He averages 22 points 12,rebounds and 3 blocks per game in his sophomore campaign, leading us to a Big Ten Championship and thena Final Four. In the NCAA championship game, he puts up 40 and 20, looking like a young Wilt leading us to a 105-53 win over Maryland. The 2002 heartbreak is avenged. Trayce is then selected with the #1 overall pick and becomes a stellar ambassador for the IU brand during a freakishly successful NBA career. Who knows though, just a guess. Anything could happen

  22. Lol I am not a parody of Gradman. I was born in 1990 and wasn’t a fan of IUBB until I went to school there in 2009-2010. I was the first person in my family to go to IU. So pardon my lack of knowledge from when I was 3 years old and growing up in a family that didn’t care for IUBB. Both my brothers went to UofL and my brother is friends with Jurich’s daughter, hints my Jurich connection and why I’m so high on him. I also have met Fred Glass many times and I’m telling you, when compared to Jurich it’s night and day. I am a huge fan, I’m just absolutely frustrated with the last 11 years of IUBB. I have disliked Crean as a coach and I disliked FG as an AD, I also dislike McRobbie as a president. I can’t deny that Fred took over a failing athletic department and brought us up to the 21st century. However, I wanted to see us go above and beyond what other schools have done. At this point, what I believe sets IUBB apart from other programs is our history and in state talent, not facilities. I think that now that the foundation is set, the next AD can really shine. Being a fan of IUBB and wanting to see Iu accomplish more are not mutually exclusive. I go to the Reservoir bar in NYC most games so if anyone would like to meet up in person to discuss IUBB I’d be happy to do so. Like I’ve said in the past, I think we missed on Holtmann and I would love to have Chris Beard. But I’m not rooting for Iu to lose. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

I drummed up another memory of Chris Reynolds, I hope I'm not wrong on this one. He tried dunking at Illinois but missed, so on senior night Calbert Cheaney held him up so he could dunk. Please don't tell me this one's wrong too

  26. Ex IU player, and was on staff for several years, served as Associate and Senior Athletic Director. Now the Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics (AD) at Bradley, but had stops at Northwestern and Notre Dame and Michigan State. Have met Chris several times, and my mom worked close with him while he was at Indiana. Just an outstanding person.

  31. Bobby Wilkerson got KO'ed in the championship game in '76 and I think spent the night in a hospital. If I recall correctly, he didn't return to Bloomington with the team but returned later. But you are absolutely right that it wasn't a common occurrence or at least wasn't diagnosed. Probably more of the latter.

  32. Not surprising. Versyp has done to PU what Mike Davis did to IU. Followed a legend and did great at first then drove program to mediocrity. Difference is PU refuses to get rid of her so they alternate between a fringe tourney team and missing all together. Women's BBall was PU's elite sport through the mid 2000's as a dynasty similar to IU soccer till Versyp got her hands on it. Fortunately for IU soccer when they got Mr. Mediocrity in Mike Freitag they dismissed him in a few years and Todd Yeagley has returned it to elite. Not sure why PU lets Versyp keep lowering their standards but not complaining. Thankfully for us Moren (who played for PU) has a 10 million dollar buyout clause in her contract that pretty much prohibits her from going to Boilermakers after what Versyp did to us spurning IU for PU. Looks like it worked out for us better then for PU even though it took many years to play out that way:).

So, Marcus Carr just put a million on OSU in the 2nd half and they flat refused to run a double or trap at him? Maybe a couple of folks ‘round here can put off the canonization of Chris Holtmann for at least a bit longer.

  38. The college fan base almost always believes it is too early for a player to go pro. But if an NBA team is willing to draft a player after only one year of college and pay him lots of money, the case against going to the NBA is usually not as persuasive as the case for going. I hope TJD has the kind of year that teams want to draft him high in the first round.

It’s just going to be hard to win on the road this year. I hope people actually recognize this and not expect us to be the 76 Hoosiers. The things people gripe about are legit things. But if we solved those things we are a top 3 team this year. I don’t think anyone expects that. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

  40. People like McRobbie usually have enormous egos which makes them likely to exert their power and control to the very end. If he is retiring soon, the right thing to do would be to allow his successor to name the new A.D. The fact that he is not speaks volumes.

Just an uniformed opinion here, but if the problem lies with the BOT and it remains the same and it hired McRobbie and he hired Glass, what makes anyone think something different is likely? It seems a philosophy about priorities is in place and I would expect more of the same.

  46. Fine, call it ugly. It’s going to be that way this season because we don’t have an elite guard or wing. IU is going to have to gut out a lot of wins, unless Phinisee makes a leap now that he’s healthy (which is possible), Green magically becomes consistent (less likely) and/or Hunter or Anderson make an in-season offensive leap (not sure if that can happen). An ugly, gut it out win is still a win and if IU can get 20+ of those then we’re a tournament lock.
