  1. Lander may or may not end up in Bloomington. But your analysis strikes me as off. Phinisee and Lander would have exactly zero problem playing together defensively, unless you think that Lander is just going to be a disinterested defender. But he’s already a long 6’3”, and apparently still growing, with flat out elite movement skills. Neither he nor Phinisee is defensively system limited in any way. I would foresee a Sr Phinisee/Fr Lander backcourt providing exceptional ball pressure and being highly disruptive creating turnovers and pushing pace. And any moron could scheme them offensively. If he ends up elsewhere, he ends up elsewhere. But system and personnel fit don’t strike me as the slightest issues.

  4. Fair enough. 2 very terse questions followed by IMO a defensive (can't think of a better word) response to my post that was totally made in jest. I'm not a debater on btb but consider myself a provider of info for everyone else with an occasional (albeit weak) attempt at a little humor. I probably read 99% of what is posted on btb and follow the debaters and their differing points of view and will readily 'Like' the opinions that I agree with. Oftentimes I am in agreement with the message in your posts but man, sometimes your delivery could use a little work. I guess it's the fundamental problem of trying to decipher intent and meaning of written communication vs. face-to-face communication.

  6. Guys...but we had an awesome St. Elmo’s shrimp eating contest today during the game. It was so awesome that it ran past it’s time, players were on the field and they were scrambling to get it cleaned up before the ball was snapped. Fred is crushing game day experience! It was comical...players were yelling for them to get off the field.

  7. It really is. We’ve cheaped out in just about everything we’ve done sans the basketball recruiting budget. If leadership had the same attention to detail and desire to win as the fans we would be in a lot better place. 9. Would we have lost by the same score? I doubt it. You are changing an outcome good or bad. Would we have won? No. We were playing a team that very likely will be in the college playoffs. That’s why I have zero clue why we all are so up in arms? It’s Ohio State in 2019. It’s not a down year for them. They are as strong as ever and we are pissed we got smoked by them. If it’s Penn State this year I get it. I am just confused as to what people really expected to have this much activity in this thread after the game and the Fire Glass thread. We got smoked by a potential national title team. Nothing more and nothing less to me. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

  14. You might be onto something here... In the six seasons before Brown arrived at Blackford, their football teams went 1-9, 0-10, 1-9, 3-7, 0-10 and 1-10. Since then, they've gone 5-6, followed by 8-4, and are 3-1 right now. Get him in the stands as an IU basketball player and I guarantee we're gonna do something crazy, like accidentally beat the crap out of Michigan. He's that good!

  16. A lot of cheap work was done in these renovations. If the goal was to renovate for the sake of checking a box these were successful. If the goal was to build state of the art facilities that set the bar and were built to last, we failed miserably. Drop ceilings have become the not so funny running joke for some but the list is endless when looking at things that were put into these or in some cases not put in that is disappointing Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

  31. Ohio State is always great. We haven't looked that hopeless against them in awhile. Last year we were up 17-14 with 5 minutes to go in the second quarter, and were only down 8 at halftime. The year before we went up 21-20 with 5 minutes left in the third quarter. In 2016 we cut it to a one touchdown game until there was 3:38 left in the third quarter. In 2015 OSU was #1 in the country and we lost by 7 and had it in the red zone with a chance to tie it up on the last play of the game (with Zander Diamont as our quarterback). Recently we have kept it close for 2-2.5 quarters before Ohio State pulls away. Yesterday, however, we were completely outclassed from the beginning. That's why it was so concerning to me.

  32. Josh, you are coming to a random message board to compare someone to your ex-girlfriend for a post three weeks after they posted it. I think that would qualify as “strange”. But I can definitely empathize with her breaking up with you. I wouldn’t be able to deal with you either. So I guess in that sense I am like your ex girlfriend if that’s what you were aiming for? I wasn’t trying to take it to that degree but I have no clue where you are trying to go with all of this other than pick a fight. If that makes me strange then I don’t want to be right I guess? 40. MSU couldn't make their mind up whether to try a regular play or go for the FG with :11 left so they ended up having 12 men on the field as the tying FG went through. Then the next kick was hooked by a mile. Using 2 timeouts on a defensive 4th down didn't help either for that last drive. 'You PLAY to WIN the GAME'

  42. Yes you are. There are....2-3 of you who can't seem to accept reality from what you wish for. 5-7 is not a really bad product. 52-0 and 34-24 is not a really bad product. Today, we were completely out classed. I saw it as well as you did, but we're not comparing ourselves to Ohio State...you said so yourself. You're asking for 1-2 more wins a year if I understand you right. So we go from "really bad" to what you wish for with 1 win? A better performance against Purdue or Minnesota last year, and we're all good, right? I have not defended and will not defend Tom Allen. You don't have to put words in my mouth. Recruiting classes are now consistently in the top 40; and honestly? I think Indiana is a top 40 program as it relates to talent. If Indiana were in the Big 12 or ACC? Different outcome. In the Big Ten East? We are what we are. So again, help me understand why I'm missing the point by saying you're comparing Indiana to Ohio State. There are 3 programs in the Big Ten that basically start every season 0-3. Indiana has been better than the other two. Our facilities still lag behind whose? Overall...basketball and football (and you do have to combine them), who are we behind? It's not the majority of our conference. I know for sure we have better facilities in total than Purdue, Illinois, Northwestern, Rutgers, Minnesota, and Iowa. I'm not sure about Maryland. Michigan, OSU, and Penn State sell close to 700,000 football tickets a year and have revenue streams we don't have. It's not an arms race, but resources are different. Why throw the lion's share of your money behind football for the sake of 1 more win? The available funds are FAR better spent for the men's basketball program, and I know you understand the economics of that. Indiana University Sports Properties is still top 10 in the country if not top 5; and it's 97% because of men's basketball. That's the program that drives our bus, and wishing that weren't true won't change it. You want to hire a new coach? Fine. If Indiana goes 5-7 or worse again, I wouldn't argue. What I WOULD argue is who we can get. Not many high level coaches will come to a program whose ceiling is 4th in its own division. Not any coach who'd stay, anyway. Because....unless you really ARE saying Indiana can consistently beat the "big 3," that's our reality. What you want is one more win against a western division team which we didn't get a year ago, and Purdue did....so you're jealous? Angry? Whatever it is.....you have to be realistic, and you have to understand the whole of Indiana's athletic situation. Not acknowledging that on your part does not equal missing the point on my part.

  44. Recruiting classss continue to improve and yet 1) we're still outrecruited by most other conference teams and 2) the defense continues to regress. Did you watch the defense? It looked horrible against both Ball State and Ohio State. Allen was hired because Glass didn't want to lose his defensive coaching abilities, and yet we've gotten worse since he started. Our facilities also still lag behind the majority of other schools in our conference. We're not complaining for the sake of complaining. We're complaining because IU is putting a really bad product on the field and we want that to change. Did you see the pregame video of Coach Allen? It was honestly embarrassing to watch. Embarrassing on the field and off.

  45. Not saying that we are trending in the right direction but Wilson’s bowl teams both had 6-6 records but he partially lucked out in that Purdue was historically putrid when Hazel coached them. I enjoyed Wilson’s “asterisk wins”, when he stayed close to OSU and Michigan, but he really didn’t beat any good or even average conference teams during his two bowl years as seen below. 6-6.....2-6 in conference (beat Maryland 1-7 in conf and Purdue 1-7) 6-6....4-5 in conference (MSU 1-8, Maryland 3-6, Rutgers 0-9, Purdue 1-9). Been watching this for a lot of decades and not sure if there is a solution (as OF frequently posts, we are f’d in this division). Maybe Allen should kick bigger trash cans??

  46. Only 5 people can play at a time. Every time you recruit someone, there is potential for another player to lose minutes. Lander is probably good enough (or feels like he is good enough) that he is probably more worried about there being enough good players around him to win then worried about sitting the bench.

  48. Look, it sounds good for IU to say that they care about all the sports programs, but we both know that basketball and football are the ones that really matter. Sure, Glass's job is to oversee all the programs, but in reality those two are the ones that matter. You seem to acknowledge that when you say that this will all be forgotten when IU is good at basketball again. How can you say 7-5 and consistent bowling is possible without spending money when we've almost never done it? I'm 25 years old. IU has won 7 games one time during my lifetime and gone to 3 bowl games. What we've been doing hasn't worked.

  49. The football team shares the weight room with a bunch of the other teams. Others have pointed out that that's something coaches use against us in recruiting. The facilities are brand new and they still lag behind other Big Ten teams' facilities. And why did it take until 2019 to give them a new locker room? We were out building all these facilities for non-revenue generating sports and seemingly left football and basketball for last.
