Loss to Wake Forest in OT isn't looking that bad now, their 52-38 loss to UCLA seems to have turned out not to be that bad. In the same way that no team stays on top forever, no one can stay at the bottom forever, either. We'll handle them at home, but I doubt it will be another 50 point win. Can't expect that every year. Magnanimous Posted Monday at 03:49 AM Posted Monday at 03:49 AM 11 hours ago, Hoosier987 said: Dinich strikes again. In her CFP playoff article this morning, she ranks IU No. 7, behind Alabama and Texas, citing our Strength of Schedule (SOS) and Alabama’s supposedly better wins. But even a quick two-minute review exposes the flaws in her argument. Notre Dame and Miami, both ranked ahead of IU in her bracket, have weaker SOS ratings than we do. Dinich’s analysis increasingly looks like SEC bias. Her justification for ranking Alabama No. 6, ahead of IU, is equally questionable. She points to Alabama’s wins over Kentucky and Mississippi State while ignoring that ESPN’s Football Power Index (FPI) ranks Nebraska and Northwestern in the top 20, whereas Kentucky and Mississippi State fall in the 21–30 range. That context seriously undermines her argument. Even more telling, IU ranks No. 2 nationally in Strength of Record (SOR), behind only Georgia. For those unfamiliar with SOR, it measures how impressive a team’s win-loss record is relative to its schedule. It’s a significant data point that Dinich’s analysis seems to overlook entirely. Her weekly fluff piece is what she thinks the CFP poll would be “if it were held today.” The main problem for her is the CFP waits two months to issue its first ranking because the data is so incomplete early in the season, which makes her entire Sunday article completely pointless. It’s something to read on the can. Quote
hoopsta007 Posted Monday at 04:21 AM Posted Monday at 04:21 AM The whole polling system has become broken and a joke. We are on a 22 game winning streak and have only been ranked number one in the post conference championship games and postseason poll. I have to laugh at the hypocrisy of the “we are not ranking last year’s team” however established schools are getting rankings handed out like candy. Lebowski Posted 16 hours ago Posted 16 hours ago The ball is seriously rolling for a 24-Team CFP as soon as next year. Once this happens everyone will wonder why this didn't happen sooner. Quote

KingPG21 Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago Personally I like the 12 team playoff. Seems like a good number for teams that could actually win it all. If we were in a 24 team playoff look at some of the teams that would make it this year. Does anyone think USC could win it all? Iowa? Wake? Tennessee? UK? I know thats just the current rankings. But just transplant another team of equal quality there next year. This sport doesn't have that many actual title contenders. Also it devalues the regular season so much. Be a 4 loss SEC or B1G team and you have a realistic argument. Hardwood83, str8baller, Pagoda and 1 other 4 Quote

If we’re being quite honest a 12 team playoff devalues the regular season. I’m looking forward to Saturday’s game but it is rather inconsequential as both teams are still presumptively in the playoffs win or lose. In an 8 team format where you have to win the B1G to guarantee a spot, Saturday’s game takes on a different tone. Quote
Stuhoo Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago Maybe I'm missing something, but 16 teams with no byes seems like an obvious choice. Let the higher seeds play a first round home game and that would be very straightforward. Pagoda and taco corp 2 Quote
