(2018) SG Romeo Langford - INDIANA HOOSIERS

I see some have talked themselves back into the "Romeo doesn't want booed" is why he hasn't announced yet. Romeo isn't scared of letting anyone down but himself or family. Last week I was told the one thing that's became crystal clear was, Romeo doesn't want to call Archie or Drew and tell them no. That doesnt mean Kansas is out of it, but he knows how important he is to either school.

I've begun to worry about Kansas a little more recently not off anything I was told, but my gut feeling of a team besides IU getting him was Vandy but not it's mixed. I still believe we have a shot and Romeo may be at a decision now but only because that was the plan. Up to 2 weeks of knowing his decision and sitting on it has been the word for a long time, so maybe he does but it doesn't sound like it. Was told Tim Langford already feels bad enough for these schools for having to wait as long as they have and making them wait an extra week maybe longer. His words not mine either. I believe Garland used our visit to help his case with Romeo and I know Wilkes made a last minute visit to tell Crean personally but Romeo has a different feel than Wilkes. Idk I could be massively wrong but even then it's hard for me to see Romeo being worried about anything but state and his next team. He's heard boos before.

Edit** Also meant that people have talked themselves into Romeo is dragging IU along but knows it's Vandy. Plain and simple and read closely, he would've just announced at the McDonald's game of that were the case that he really knew. Why wait even longer? Though I have heard Tim will let Romeo announce somewhere like the high school or close or he could find a day that works for ESPN after all, but even so the McDonald's game would've been perfect for him.

"I believe Garland used our visit to help his case with Romeo".  This is wayyyy too true.  Also, FWIW, if the sales team at my place or work gets last look, it's always, 100% of the time a good thing. We land a very heavy majority of the work we go after when we get last look. For me, this boils down to "Does Archie have his pitch ready"?  And you better believe he does.  I'm no prophet; I have no inside sources, but knowing what facts all the rest of us do with no speculation, Romeo is ours to lose. This isn't a game for their family the way it was for the Garland's.  Last visit is a very, very powerful thing.

I agree 100% well 99.9% I won't say anyone's ours to lose on here anymore, but we have a great shot. My advice for some is stop getting bored and thinking of all these conspiracy theories with Romeo. Just enjoy it. I'm ready to be over this one too, but don't make this something it's not.

Yeah I think people tend to forget it’s not IU when Recker committed. It’s 20 years after the fact. This backlash that a few have talked into existence is a fabrication of their own cynicism. We may get back there, but it’s not there and the people stating this know this. In one convo they complain about IU’s stature with kids and the bad hires, etc., etc. Then in the next convo they say there will be backlash? If the kids don’t care about IU like they used to or are apathetic towards IU, what backlash? It just comes down to people wanting this kid here and looking for every reason to justify a kid not wanting to come to a school they are a fan of, even if not logical.

Totally agree.  Romeo knows we want him at IU. That's no secret. If (and thats a big IF) he is worried about committing to Vandy and waiting to announce because he is worried about what the fans would do or say as backlash (which i dont think he is), then what does that say about us as a fan base. Not saying there would be any backlash or anything but please lets not see anyone say anything to him on twitter or anything. No school should ever feel entitled to a kid and no kid should ever feel pressure to go to a school. Kids must do what they feel is best for them, not best for a fan base. I want Romeo more than any other recruit ever. But if he chooses Vandy or Kansas, then i will wish him luck and still wish him the best because of the way he has handled this recruitment. He's a great basketball player and a better person. No matter his choice, it was amazing to be in the consideration and have a chance to land a kid of his stature.

This is absolutely not enjoyable. The lack of concrete information has led to endless speculation and conspiracy theory peddling.

I think the alpha dog was without a doubt involved in faking the moon landing. Crazy thing is they faked it on mars. The film was just black and white.

I completely disagree with instate recruits not feeling the pressure. I want every top instate player to feel the pressure. I'm not saying fans should lash out on social media or in person. I'm saying every top instate recruit should know they're welcomed at IU and that should be their first choice. I believe when that happens, and IU lands the lions share, we'll be back competing on the national stage.

I don't understand the part where people want kids to face 'backlash' for choosing another program. That's sick.

Not calling anyone in particular out. Just think about that a little.

You and me are on the same page there. What gives us the right to think backlash would be acceptable because of what an 18 year old kid chooses is best for him and his family.

I don’t disagree with where we want to be, but there is currently no pressure to come to the state school for Romeo. He lives on the state line and going to Indiana for instate kids hasn’t been the thing to do for top kids for 20 years. Definitely not the norm. So in this instance there is currently very little pressure felt by the Langford’s for Romeo to come to IU. They know we want him here. When Recker committed, that was pressure. Now if we go on a run of getting top in state kids then I could see it. There will be some upset if Romeo doesn’t come, but that isn’t pressure.

So Sean may who was basically an iu lock choose North Carolina because of knight and played a whole season right down the road from campus. He made it through it. This fan backlash theory is nonsense

IIRC he played for UNC because of Davis.

When did he commit? UNC freshman in 2002 and Davis became coach in 2000?

From what I remember, Davis swore up and down that Sean told him he was coming to IU. Told him that several times. Then Scott May took Sean down to Lubbock to visit Knight and evaluate his recruitment. Not long after that, Sean committed to UNC. I have no doubt Knight sabotaged that.

Would have been hard to find a more Anti-IU guy at the time.
