(2018) SG Romeo Langford - INDIANA HOOSIERS

Fair enough, for the 1st time I have heard of a player from Indiana "who was poorly coached in high school"

Haven't heard it, just taking your word for it.

Haha.  I have heard complaints here on this board.  I have not actually even seen Damezi live.  That is why I added the question mark.  For some reason I am thinking johnsoniu may have expressed some concerns about Damezi's coaching, but then he or some other posters may have just posted something during a game that I may have taken to mean more than was implied.  I honestly think more than one poster from the Michiana area made remarks about wishing Damezi had not been asked to do so much to get his team the many big wins he got for them this year.  I think some guys said they thought Damezi might need a little extra coaching just to unlearn the me against the world approach to the game he was relied upon on that team in order to win.  It could also be said that you can't really hold it against a coach who lets his guy go 1-on-5 a lot if the guy still gets you the wins that way.  Idk.  Hopefully some Michiana posters can and will join in and share what they know about Damezi and how he was coached in high school.

Yes he is.. met him and talked to him at the gym about two months ago.

If you ever see him there and he is playing basketball ask him if he wants to play a game. He loves to play one on one, two on two or three on three. Just don't get in the way of one of those elbows. He's got a strong back to the basket game.

Peegs vip teaser

Jeffries on Langford: “Go to Indiana and be a legend"

Jared Jeffries once sat where Romeo Langford now sits, a five-star, highly recruited in-state basketball prospect. He knows what he would tell Langford.

I understand.  Victor Oladipo equals my favorite football Hoosier of all-time.  Anthony Thompson was amazing and humble...answered every letter written to him by fans...and, in my opinion, he was ripped off from receiving the Heisman Trophy.

I lived 3 doors down from AT in  the dorm at IU and he was awesome.

Damezi's coach up until this year was Mark Johnson, and he is top shelf ( and no we're not related lol)

He resigned last year because of some bull**** with the school board and administration trying to run the program behind his back. The coach this year is decent enough, but was put in a tough situation because most of Riley's team has played together since they could dribble. He pretty much took the hands off approach during games and let them police themselves, but he did challenge them in practice. Damezi and the team respected him and liked him.

And they won their first 26 games of the season and were ranked #1.  I'm not sure that 'bad coaching' results in that kind of year, regardless of the players on the team.

Thank you for sharing.  I thought you might be connected and able to give a concise answer to the question.  Much appreciated.

Pretty sad the board forced him out when the team was on the cusp of greatness, and commendable the new coach was able to hold it all together in the turmoil of the transition and still make a run for the title even so.

My interest is picqued and would like to hear more details about the board and admin trying to run the program, and making the job unbearable for the coach who built the program.

I'm going to post this here, it's more to do with Oladipo, but some to do with Langford and recruiting though...
Victor could be (will be) instrumental in our in-state recruiting going forward and it doesn't even have to be him talking to that recruit or this recruit. Archie says "look at how big Victor is in our state, it's no coincidence he went to IU".. when talking to recruits and it's over. VO has a chance to be bigger than Reggie in this state, I can't believe I'm typing that having grown up in the 90s and early 2000s. The bottom line is the goal for these kids is the NBA, as it should be.. and they'll be seeing Victor 82 games a year for their hometown team. I realize not every kid is a Pacers fan, FS Sports IN is on nearly every cable provider we have, especially in Indy where IU needs more of a presence. His character and personality are second to none. If you're a parent and you see a guy like Victor came from IU.. wouldn't you want your son to follow his example? I believe the state will soon be enamoured by him and all those kids 5-14 years old currently will soon fall in love with him as we, as IU fans, have for these past 8 years. As a Pacer fan and an IU fan, I realize there are better players then him.. but there is no one I'd trade him for.. and I mean that.

This is seriously very insightful. I’ve been excited about Victor and how incredible he has been being a Pacer now. But definitely never thought of the “Peyton Manning” like effect he can have for iu recruiting going forward. ESPECIALLY in state. Well put!

I'll keep it short, so as not to derail the thread, even tho we have 2 weeks til the announcement lol.

Principal and a couple board members were trying to dictate exact roster size and make up, and making their displeasure known for the playing time of certain players. One board member accused him on facebook of being a racist. Superintendent was spineless and wouldn't back the coach, the AD was even worse. Coach said screw it. There's a pending lawsuit the coach filed against the school corporation. Bad situation all around, kudos to the kids for having the success they did  this year with that as a backdrop.

Back on topic, sure hope Romeo picks IU

Go Hoosiers

Really cool for vic to support iu as well as he is even though they fired his coach. Hope he has a long career and keeps helping iu with recruiting. He has a great shot at being my all time favorite hoosier if this continues

I don’t think anyone will top Calbert Cheaney for me but Vic is up there for sure
