For a while we kind of were led to believe that Archie's fresh interest in a few recruits was due to the possibility (or likelihood) that we would have transfers at the end of the season.  Now I have to wonder if the staff were only reacting to a change of heart from KBJ.  I sure hope he didn't have the staff convinced he was coming and they, then, stopped recruiting 2019's - only to have him pull a 180 on them.

And, unfortunately, you are correct about Hunter.  There's no reason to feel fully optimistic or pessimistic about his future - I really believe everyone involved is hopeful but guarded at this point.  I truly hope he can overcome the medical issue and move forward, but only time will tell.

Even though it appears we're all resigned to the fact that Mr. Brooks will be heading to Lexington, I have a feeling these pages won't be quiet between now and March 15. 
My message, however, to the Mildcats: Beware the Ides of March!!!

In fairness Mike Pegram didn't give an official prediction for TJD to MSU like he has here for UK. I'd say he knows and that this one is a wrap.

Im gonna go total optimistic and say that Peegs changed his pick to UK to help the family keep the suspense and shock the world when Keion chooses IU! (I’ve learned how to type on my phone while dreaming ).....but seriously, hopefully it’s just a guess on his part at this point and IU is still somehow in this. It’s crazy how Calipari can swoop in like this and make such an impression. Keion can go to the NBA playing for IU as well, and his friends are there. I’d like to think that in the back of Keion’s mind, he would regret letting his friends down and missing out on having fun with them. He has always said how important and a privilege it’d be to represent his home state across his chest...hopefully that doesn’t end up being all talk. More than happy to have TJD and AF onboard and already representing IU very well!!

If we can somehow add one of Quinones, Beverly, or solid JUCO, we’ll be in good shape even without Brooks. I’m still holding out hope that he comes to IU but that hope is dwindling quick.

The thought of having Brooks on one side and Hunter on the other would be awesome. Though when the tweet started coming out about Brooks senior saying time To be selfish, in my mind was letting Indiana fans know.
Our staff going hard after two wings shortly after Kentucky visit pretty well sums it up. Beverly and Quinones may not be the same players as Brooks, but were best available after getting intel that Brooks could now be a no.
I hate it, but Kentucky is always in it. I wish they would have landed bigger fish now. Keion would be ours.

If the desire to be OAD is driving the decision, then UK is probably the place for him. Our program is never going to be built on that type of player. The right culture and experience will be our path to success. We need talented players who are going to be here for multiple years. I trust the staff to find those players who will lead us to sustained success.

Some maybe underestimating the influence of family. If I spent countless hours working with my son putting him in the best possible situation his whole life. UK misses on some guys and they say the opportunity for your son is now . We will make your family very wealthy. That would be hard to pass up. I hate it but mom and dad going to be tough to beat out.

They always say connections matter the most if we lose him it would appear that might be waning. Schilling had every in for him. Michigan had a similar connection for Carton.

UK is still in on Hurt too, right?  More playing time questions at UK.  If I were a 1 and done, or even a 2 and done, I'd want to know where I will be showcased and get the most playing time possible.  While nothing is a guarantee on playing time, I think he's just another 5* at UK.  Best of luck to the kid on whatever he decides.

That being said the real value I thought with KBJ wasn’t in 2020 it was in 2021. So if he’s dead set on OAD. Might be better off with Beverly long term. Like how we are without a doubt better with off with Phinisee over Garland

I think this phenomena peaked in 2015 and has been trending downward ever since. He might still go to more Final Fours and maybe hang another banner, but Kentucky doesn't rule college basketball like they did 4-5 years ago.

 

Sadly, there are still recruits and their families who think playing for UK and Calipari is a meal ticket to a guaranteed NBA contract. It's disappointing that Brooks and his parents appear to be among them, but this is one of the byproducts of people valuing money above all else.

I think we as a fanbase reeeeeaaaally want this to be true. But unfortunately its just not. He'll be able to sell this snake oil as long as it continues to be true. UK has 25 players in the NBA, the overwhelming majority of which played for Cal, and 12 of the 25 have entered the NBA since 2015. Duke can claim they are right there recently, but if a kid is looking for a path to the NBA, Cal can still sell that "snake oil" better than anyone. I hate it, and I really wish it wasn't true, but it is.

Every single one of them could have gone to Dayton to play for Archie and still would have made the NBA. UK had nothing to do with getting to the NBA.

I think it peaked because Dook started playing the game and did it better. (Dook is higher on the anime pecking order)
