People used to laugh at us and say "Tom Crean won two Big Ten titles in 4 years and IU fired him anyway" now they are gonna laugh at us and say "Mike Woodson made 2 NCAA tournaments in 4 years and IU forced him our anyway."

Assuming we miss this year, Mike Woodsons two trips to the tourney represent our only trips to the tourney IN A DECADE!

That is abysmal.

Also, I was just going back and looking at some of those bad late era Knight teams. And yes Knight was in his old crotchety phase and those teams were beat down and not his best coaching. But there’s squads like the 96-97’ one that definitely didn’t have more talent than this one that still managed to make the tourney easily.

IU basketball is lost in the wilderness right now.

It took a 2 BTT games where were down big and really to come back just to become second to last team in the field in his first year.  1 time in 10 years where they were solidly in the field.   I would argue the Covid year they were solidly in the field but it got cancelled

FWIW; every time I discuss college sports with someone and I tell them I'm an IU alum, they immediately say (and it happened again last night) "damn, you guys are really kicking everyone's @$$!"

No one under the age of 50 notices IU basketball unless they are a dedicated IU fan. Hopefully that will change, but that has been the reality for decades.

My nephew is at IU now.  He says nobody down there really talks about or cares about IUBB.  Most would rather hit the bars and unless they see football players enter the bars not alot of the people he is with would know who is on the basketball team if they walked into the bar.  Far cry from the days of being a big dog on campus for being on the IUBB team.  I was asking him if he's had tickets or been to games.  He said no interest in basketball and had football the last couple years.  Said the bars were rocking after IUBB beat Purdue at home but not much else to speak of this season on campus with basketball.

I am sure if CDD can turn this around and make the tournament in the years ahead the fanbase will start supporting and the students will be engaged again.

I live in Henderson, KY just across the bridge in Evansville, and when I am out somewhere in town with my IU jacket or hat on, I get stopped a lot from UK fans saying they were cheering for IU to win it all in FB specially when they played Alabama.  They don't mention basketball, but it is all FB and how good Cig is. I love the fact that FB is at the top right now, but the BBall team needs to be back near the top.

I think that depends on who you hang around with and what you’re interested in. My son is a student there and has been to almost every game, as has a lot of people he knows. Is it like it used to be? No, it isn’t. But it’s not near as bad as some people want to portray it.

Keep telling yourself that. I wear IU gear out, people mention football and basketball never comes to topic anymore. And I live in KY. That used to be all about basketball. These last 10 years, have fallen off a lot harder than you want to believe. Have we had 1 home game this season where the arena was full?

On the topic of how CDD is doing, honestly, I find CDD's pressers and public statements to be frustrating.

I get CDD is a quiet guy, and I don't expect him to be like Cig or someone outspoken, but we need a little more from him. He's all hunched over and rambling and uncertain.

He needs to sit up, clearly explain what's good and bad, and outline the actions being taken to fix it.  Part of his job is getting the fanbase believing and engaged, and while most of that comes from winning, it also comes from what the fans hear from the leader of the program.  Fanbase sentiment is not good right now.

Related to this, I worry about how well he connects with recruits and even the team.  If I'm not inspired, are they?  Perhaps they are, we've landed Wilkerson and some nice HS players, but it still worries me.

Lastly, he mentioned "the hump" in his MSU post-game presser.  That gave me a visceral reaction.  The SID should tell him to not to use that word for the good of IUBB public relations.

I could be wrong of course.  This is just how I feel.  I don't really know how effective CDD is day to day with recruits and the team.  It just seems off so far.  Good news is this can improve, and I guess it may just take some winning and it will all feel better.  I don't know...

Get a technical for crying out loud how has he gone the whole season without getting one.

This for sure.  If we’re not gonna win he needs to throw something.  Put on a show.  We need some crazy.

This is how all his pressers have felt to me.  I'm not sure how he got through the interview process tbh

Been going to games for over 40 years, so I don’t really need to tell myself anything. Yeah, as I said, it’s not like it used to be.  Our fans don’t totally show out unless the team is unusually good or a championship contender. That’s the way it’s always been for all sports.

For as bad as we've been (excluding 2020, probably two tourney appearances in the last nine seasons), our crowds have been pretty decent.  Assembly Hall is still a large arena in a pretty small college town -- that makes decent crowds look visually not so good imo.

It’s been interesting watching his pressers. He knows ball, tactically he clearly gets it. He can explain the X’s and O’s to us laypeople pretty well. Harping on rebounding deficiencies too. Maybe that’s all low-hanging fruit but it suggests to me there’s minimal chance he’s oblivious to what’s gone wrong this year. Coming from Woody at least this is reassuring.

In both the MSU and Northwestern pressers the way he described ILL, PU, MSU games gives me the sense he’s cognizant of just how overmatched we are size and overall talent wise to those schools. Honestly, I like that…I didn’t before.

None of this matters if we assemble another flawed roster.
