Sorry, but I don't believe this for a second.

Definitely ahead of us

1. Duke
2. Arizona
3. UConn
4. BYU
5. Louisville
6. North Carolina
7. Kansas
8. St. John’s
9. Arkansas
10. Kentucky
11. Michigan

Then the maybe list:

12. Alabama
13. Michigan State
14. Illinois
15. Houston
16. Florida
17. NC State
18. Tennessee
19. UCLA
20. USC.
An extra 20. Texas Tech

There’s 21. Could we be behind this group of 9 reasonably? Absolutely. I’d argue we are behind much of this group.

Others In contention

21. Texas
22. Missouri
23. Ohio State
24. Baylor
25. Washington
26. Miami
27. Texas AM
28. Iowa State
29. Gonzaga
30. Kansas state
31. Georgetown
32. Ole Miss
33. Oregon
34. Auburn
35. Memphis

Could argue a few from this group.

Maybe I’m missing some contenders.

I’d say confidently we aren’t top 10. I think 10-15 is possible but based on rosters this year I could see us below the 20 I named in this post. I think some of the contenders might have surpassed us too. Oregon, Texas, OSU, Washington has an expensive roster.

Sorry I don't really understand this "could" argument? Why would IU do this? So IUFB has success they are just going to gut their BB NIL? This is bordering on a straw man argument.

No one said any of this. I said we might not be top 20 nil program in basketball. I listed schools as a mental exercise. It matches up. No one really knows.

The “could” be section was schools I’m not as sure about. I think we are ahead of most of those besides maybe Oregon, OSU, Washington, Gonzaga, Texas. Idk.

There is zero reason both can't be in the national spotlight. No need to rob Peter to pay Paul. Fund/support both and be nationally relevant annually in both marquee sports in collegiate athletics.

IUFB is indeed driving the bus. That was never the case, ever. It is now. Finally.

It will be considered first and foremost before any other sport in the department. And doing so will pay dividends for every single sport, especially the basketball program.

If you live in the 812, every store that has any sort of sports apparel is currently stacked with IUFB.  More than I have ever seen in my lifetime. I used to see a lot back in the late 80s/early 90s, but nothing like this.

I’m sure that it’s being discussed; wondering how we’re going to add about 15,000 seats to Memorial.

Was at a crap-@$$ U Florida game last month and the high, steep monster stadium there is still louder than ours is for an @$$ kicking team.

Oh, I'm by no means arguing which sport drives the financial bus. I'm just simply saying there is no need to start ignoring basketball due to football success. Their can be high end commitment to both simultaneously. In fact there are many schools that have and currently are doing just this. I just want it all.....that too much to ask?

JMO I think we’ll add a few seats but I’d guess we add premium seating and max out at 60K.

Perhaps that’s a self-imposed limitation on my part!  For shame!

Memorial Stadium has some fairly steep stands, but yea it’s not Ben Hill Griff.  I kinda think most of it is down to our fans who can probably get a little more wild than they are — like in AH when we were good or the Illinois game this year.  Memorial could be a little more Autzen-like over time I would hope.

To be clear I’m not complaining just observing.  We’ve come a long way baby and more is possible.

I don't think I said any such thing. My point was IUFB is number one over any other sport in the department. That was made clear with what they're paying the DC.  And funds that were typically allocated to IUBB might not be there anymore. Especially if there's a chance to land a top recruit for the football program.

The pressbox is definitely coming down and rebuilt. Lol.

We have come a long way and still have a long way to go. Locking down Haines was a great start. We need to establish sustainability to really grow the program. Remember, the big boys have generations of success to rely on. We are just starting. We'll get there if the commitment continues. Outside of the 76 basketball team, the past two years of football have been the most enjoyable in my life.

When we hired a coach from JMU I distinctly (LOL) remember predicting:

We would go the the playoffs two years in a row

Get a bye in the second year

We would be rated first in the NATION

Would beat OSU and win the Big Ten

Go undefeated

Win Coach of the year two years in a row

Win Assistant of the year

Win the Heisman

etc etc

I was a huge (video game) NCAA football fan growing up and bought the game annually until about 2008. When they finally brought the series back last year, I went over a friend’s house and tried it out in July 2024, mainly for nostalgia. Mind you, this was the first time ever they had player names in the game. This was my exact reaction throwing passes with some dude named Kurtis Rourke…
