I think historically I would say this type of reaction to assistants would a little over the top. Assistants come and go but generally the head guy reigned supreme.

But in this new era of evaluating and recruiting out of the portal with thousands of players every year, I can start to see the value of an elite staff. Not so much on the coaching Xs and Os side, but on the player acquisition and deciding they’re worth aspect.

Interesting staff by ol Coach Double D. Seems heavy on the recruiting side of things which is possibly optimal??

I'm not surprised to see this with 5 assistant coaches instead of 3.

2-3 who are strong recruiters and the others have a strength of coaching and player development.

Rabby is saying the Clark addition might round out the coaching staff. He has backtracked from Bargen not being in a coaching to position to now saying he'll be a coach but not do much recruiting. Adams, Clark, and Johnson will be the recruiters.

He's not 100% on this, but is he ever? Says that adding Justin Bailey is still a possibility.

Will the 3 recruiters do much on the court coaching or are they solely in recruiting roles.

So which of the assistant coaches do we see as primarily coaching and developing the players?

Clark and Adams seem like primary recruiters.

I imagine they'll all do coaching as well but they're being brought in more for their recruiting. They all have experience scouting opponents, coaching, player development, etc.

I actually think DeVries is very hands on and is going to be the main developer and will have coaches just develop certain aspects of a position. Like KJ I believe is good at developing bigs. Clark seems to be good at recruiting and developing wings or bringing in ones that don’t really need additional development

The fantastic son I am, I took my mom to Mother Bears on the west side for her 76th birthday last night. Around 7:30 in the evening, I looked up and Coach DDV, Rod Clark, and DDV daughter all walked in. After our dinner, we walked over to say welcome to Bloomington and told coach it was my mom's birthday and that she had spent 42 years working at the University. Super nice people, were so gracious, felt like we could have talked for an hour. My brother, who wasn't sold on the hire, has now met him, plus heard a couple of other stories has changed his tune.

Happy birthday to your moms! My 45th is today!
