Any state finals sightings of DeVries yet?  Should be front and center all day long imo.

It’s probably super hard this year because he has to build a complete roster so I’m sure he literally has to pour every hour into the portal this year. I think going forward after this year he definitely will

Unless we think there is a significant contributor for next year’s roster in one of those games, that’s not a good use of his time now imo.

He isn’t a politician. Let’s not demand public appearances from the guy when we don’t even have a team yet for next year.

No need to pile on the previous regime, but if TJD hadn't stuck around for two years I could see the Woodson-era bearing a striking resemblance to Kenny Payne's time at Louisville...

Hard to talk about the previous regimes without it feel like piling on lol

I think any IU head coach should at least make an appearance at the state championship game(s) and always will.   Recruits in play or not, IMO.

With the Midwest regional in Indy, I'm sure Pork Chop will be there tonight and may have made a cameo if Purdon't pulled it off last night.

I mean does he even have a house yet? Did movers unpack his stuff etc? I agree normally but to me this year he gets a free pass. Or maybe he goes a little later. I’m not sure game times

There will be coaches there who may be coaches of those future superstars. I would hope he would go when he can.

Class 3a and 4a are the evening session.  If he goes it will be the night games.

He’s two weeks into the job and has literally an empty roster. The only priority right now is fielding a competitive team for next year. Everything else can wait a few weeks, imo. I have no doubt he understands the importance of in-state recruiting/making his face known, but right now it’s tunnel vision time.

And on top of that he doesn’t even have all of his assistants there to help him shoulder the load. If a couple of his assistants are still coaching then it’s hard for them to put full effort in like he is

I’m all for IUBB becoming a force in regional HS ball again and I hope in coming years we will be a presence at these events.

Right now the focus has to be on building the program and putting a roster and coaching staff together. Going to the state game would just be showing face when we have nothing else in order.

Man…… I promise you all that I’m trying….. but I do not feel an ounce of excitement towards IUBB. Not even a little bit.

I can’t tell if it was the apathy from the last 2 years, or whether I’m just missing something with CDD.

I’ve read, watched, and listened to all things CDD lately and it’s not moving me at all.

I hope everyone adjusts their expectations and realizes that this is going to be a much longer build than what we were wanting.

I feel the same way. It's why I was hoping against all hope for Brad Stevens, or some other hire that would shock the college basketball world to its core. Instead, we just hired another guy. He might go on to be wildly successful here, who knows. But I distinctly remember the day John Calipari was hired at UK, and how the college basketball world collectively sh*t itself thinking UK was going to own the sport for the next decade. That's what I wanted here. But nothing that good ever happens to this program anymore.

Aside from all that, I found myself feeling frustrated after last night's games. I'm sick and tired of watching Purdue out-perform us every year and hoping they don't so something improbable like they nearly did a year ago. They lost 12 games this year, only one more than us, yet they were one play away from playing a practical home game for a second straight Final Four appearance. When are we ever going to be in this position again? When will we even be close? The program wasn't in too bad of a spot when Crean was fired, but the past decade got away from us real quick.

I think we're all just mentally drained and fatigued.

I hope DeVries gets some muti year guys out of the portal so he’ll have something to build on going forward.

Agree with this. Connell and Tucker DeVries would be great for 25-26, but then we're back to square one.

That's part of the reason I was hoping DDV could bring Jonathan Powell with him. I'd love to hear whether he entered the portal when he did for more NIL, to play for a new coach, or because he knew DDV was on the way out.

Is Bidunga viewed as a likely NBA guy after next year, or is he a 3-4 year college guy? He could be a nice building block too, if the latter...

People act like Indiana chose to hire DeVries over Stevens, Pearl, etc.

They didn't want Indiana. Even McCollum hesitated. I know the narrative is Scott pinning DeVries down early, but nobody wants to accept that he was putting non tier-one plans together early because the odds of big fish were always low. I guarantee he didn't not try to make the splash hire; the line was cast but the big ones didn't bite.

Looking at the Calipari example too, yes UK was able to hire the hot name in coaching that year. But Memphis basketball was a flash in the pan and Kentucky was still blue blood. 3 seasons at Memphis was more than enough and it was a no-brainer for Cal to take a huge step up to his biggest job opportunity yet. The guys we wanted? One is the President of a 6 billion dollar franchise. The other has sustained a football school's basketball program at the top tier of the college game for the better part of a decade, and we passed him over last year. That's the one that angers me. But the programs where your big names currently reside? Indiana is in large part a lateral move with no success in eons. I think Dolson got the best coach realistically available and willing.

I follow some draftniks who really like him but that doesn’t necessarily mean you might only have him for one year. Depends somewhat on what the actual teams see, and on now on how much you can make in school, too.

My guess would be he’ll have an option next year and the choice will be dependent on whether he really thinks he’d go higher with another year of school.
