I have actually been thinking of a different USC comp this whole time: Pete Carroll.

USC football had been lost in the woods for a while. They were a sleeping giant that was turned down by everyone and were down to about their 5th choice when a talented young coach named Pete Carroll, who really wanted the job, said yes. The rest is history as he built one of the most dominant programs of the 00’s.

Sometimes you just have to get lucky with timing.

I have zero respect for Pete Carroll. By the Reggie Bush fiasco he ran the USC program into the ground and then was spineless by running away and not facing the accusations of what he had done.

Dang Creighton plays such a fun style of ball. Wonder what that kind of offense would look like at IU?

Actually think DeVries has a pretty similar offensive philosophy to McDermott; we'll get to see something like it before long!

Probably just like it does at Creighton except with red uniforms instead of blue. :)

Perhaps if we just hired a Greg McDermott protégé?

Wow why didn't I think of that? ;)

I've seen more than one report that he'll bring Garrett Sturtz his current DOBO with him.  You can read a brief bio of his WVU staff members at the link below.

Guy was a heck of a player. Drake’s all-time leading rebounder as a 6’3” walk-on.

I think you got lost in the analogy there, my friend.

No, Armond's was usually lying prone with his eyes closed.

I know we joke a lot about him, but on a serious note -- I really want to understand why/how that guy was the first man on the bench all four years of Woodson's tenure. Just totally unserious by this program to let the head coach give such an important position on the bench to a guy that actively did nothing. It is crazy to me that this was ever even a thing.

The more I think about the Woodson tenure, the more amazed I am that he won as many games as he did. This should've gone the Juwan Howard/Kenny Payne route but somehow he stayed just barely above water in terms of wins and losses.

FWIW: "Locked On" WVU guy said 2 current WVU players verified that DeVries left without addressing the team. That was what Small's tweet with crying and laughing emojis was about. "If" true that's not awesome.

I wouldn't worry too much about what WVU folks say at this point.

First off, the Locked On folks are not plugged in insiders. They're independent media guys (usually student reporters) who just report what they hear.

Secondly, WVU fans are bitter over this and have been stoking rumors of DeVries conspiring to screw their school this season on his way out.

I expect more than one transfer from the WVU roster to join him in Bloomington. Wouldn't be surprised if he brings a couple of his HS recruits over as well. We'll just have to wait and see what happens.
