Hoosierfan2017 Posted Wednesday at 01:00 PM Posted Wednesday at 01:00 PM Nothing we’ve seen from Devries suggests he’s a good enough coach to win with middling talent. We tried the mid major scrappy underdogs approach last year. It was a disaster. It will be very disappointing if we do the same or similar this year. Chris007, 8bucks, skhoosier2 and 4 others 7 Quote

I don't care about feeling better. It is what it is to me. Its the reality of things to me. I am frustrated by it, of course. I vent, of course. I've said before and i'll say again, when our results and actions match my attainable top 20 program aspirations I won't be viewed as negative by the board. until then, i probably will. imo, zero reason not to be a top 20 type program. I actually kinda like DeVries but he's so blase as a personality. I think Indiana needs some swagger and some confidence. some recruiting juice. something postive to get the ball rolling. A great season would have done it. Now we are in the same boat we were a year ago. swung and missed on a lot of top 2026 recruits. Got a few middle ranked guys with longterm upside. Now, not able to swing for the fences in the portal. or opting not to. I'm convinced our roster this year will be better on paper than last year but I don't think it'll be the level the program needs to create a spark. All the excuses in the world go out the window for Devries when the guy next door takes over the worst P4 football program in the country and wins a national championship two years later. Winners win, particularly in the NIL/portal era. I don’t expect a NC out of Devries, but there’s no reason he can’t build a team that’s solidly in the tournament next year. Home Jersey Posted Wednesday at 01:12 PM Posted Wednesday at 01:12 PM Two transfers with proven P5 production would be an improvement from last year. Brace yourselves for some money ball folks. Popular Post IU Prof Posted Wednesday at 01:15 PM Popular Post Posted Wednesday at 01:15 PM For the record, I'm fine with dumping on DDV if next year's roster shows he hasn't learned his lesson and/or been able to successfully adjust his approach. I just refuse to preemptively engage in teeth gnashing and woe-is-us-ism when credible reports from national writers list IU as one of a small handful of teams to watch for, basically, half of the top 10 transfers currently on the market. Especially when all of them would represent a big leap forward from last year's strategy. If we swing and miss at all of them, then have at it. But patience is a virtue, especially in a case like this when we'll all know a heck of a lot more in 7-10 days. Dave from Dayton, Shooter, hper50 and 9 others 12 Quote

They are represented by the same agent. Taking that visit together but not expected to go to same place but who knows. If an IU coach did this and they didn’t end up going to IU people would kill the coach for wasting resources on kids that were never coming. Michigan has been the far better basketball program than IU over that stretch of time you stated. Even Howard made an elite 8. Beilein had Michigan rolling. Part of me was kind of glad May didn’t have to make a choice between IU or Michigan because he might of picked Michigan over IU anyway or at least the best basketball decision for him would of been Michigan over IU. Who knows where he would of picked but Michigan had been to the championship game twice and more importantly had 10 winning conference records since 2011-12 with 3 separate times have back to back to back winning seasons. Is what it is at this point. IU basketball program isn’t relevant in the college basketball landscape today regardless of the money spent. Until on court results change that’s the reality IU Prof, NVFalcons1990, HinnyHoosier and 8 others 9 2 Quote

Five Prime Posted Wednesday at 01:43 PM Posted Wednesday at 01:43 PM We may very well end up with 2 or 3 off the top of our board, but we also have to understand how these transfers leverage school interest. Everyone knows we are desperate and will pay reasonably well, so agents garner IU interest and drive up the asking price. Stuhoo and skhoosier2 2 Quote

That's why last year was a waste. It isn't helping this year in the portal at all or to get top talent because we are going to have to overpay to do it and at this point we cannot afford to overpay when you need 7+ players. Class of '66 Old Fart Posted Wednesday at 01:57 PM Author Posted Wednesday at 01:57 PM Poster on X: The following schools have been in contact with (fill in the blank). 1. We did initiate a contact and were told the asking $$ and we immediately hung up, 2. We did initiate a contact and were told the player had zero interest in IU or the B1G and we hung up. 3. An agent, parent or other initiated a contact with us and we hung up for whatever reason. 4. Agent, parent or other hinted/implied an IU contact when none really existed. It's to the agent, parent or other's benefit to say, imply, hint that there's been mutual communication to keep interest/demand in the player at a higher level. Not all reported IU/player contacts are necessarily equal. RaceToTheTop, Home Jersey, skhoosier2 and 3 others 6 Quote
IU Prof Posted Wednesday at 02:07 PM Posted Wednesday at 02:07 PM Just to clarify, I think there is a big difference between these posts listing IU as one of 25 teams that have contacted a player, and reports from Jamie Shaw or Travis Branham saying IU is among the 3 or 4 teams to watch for a player. The latter may prove incorrect, but suggest a higher level of meaningful interest and engagement than the former. Juwan Moye 1 Quote

Some fans are working themselves up with worry and negative scenarios. Main-stream media and social media get more attention and make lots more noise with shock and anger news and rumors. I follow it for entertainment, but the smoke and mirrors do not trip my trigger until a signed agreement. AKHoosier Posted Wednesday at 02:12 PM Posted Wednesday at 02:12 PM God help this board if we lose an in-state kid at a position of need to Kelvin Sampson lol. Wouldn't blame Burton for it though. Houston has been the better program over the course of his lifetime. He's probably transferring from ND because he's a good player who's sick of losing. Will he get away from that at IU? Tough call. skhoosier2 and Uspshoosier 2 Quote
