Hornsby Posted March 5, 2024 Posted March 5, 2024 Would Buckner burn it down to make his point? Seems beyond idiotic... never mind, I just answered my own question.Arrogance and power make people do very irrational things.Sent from my SM-A146U using Tapatalk

I believe this is correct. To sweeten the deal even more, Bruce Pearl only has to pay 50% of the buyout within 30 days of leaving. The rest of the buyout isn't due for another year. Theoretically, if a booster could pay the buyout and Pearl didn't take a salary for the first year, he could sign on the dotted line tomorrow, and then sign his real contract in 2025 after Buckner is off the board. thebigweave, IUrocker and Chris007 3

SamIam Posted March 5, 2024 Posted March 5, 2024 This is all going basically as I said it would. Before NW, I said 3-4 to finish would keep him safe. He needs one more win, IMO. A lot of people were saying that one win shouldn't matter to this decision, and they were right, but that ignores the politics at play here. I will say this, if the buyout stuff is true and IU can space it into annual payments, it should not be underestimated how much leverage this gives IU financially. Woody's team would have to negotiate that into a much smaller guaranteed buyout. Worst case scenario is that we hold onto Woodson only 1 more year. We run out a team of mercenaries, we lose out on the '25 class, and Dusty takes a P5 job whose year 1 buyout will be too hefty for IU to pay.
realTomCrean Posted March 5, 2024 Posted March 5, 2024 You have to think Woodson wants out at this point as well. His team is allegedly leaving him, his in-season results have been mediocre at best, and the off-season is a grind that takes away from hobbies and family. All of this while a fan base is overwhelmingly imploring the AD to fire/retire him. I know he's fighting it, or someone on his behalf, online due to the new X accounts that are GOING AFTER(!) anyone who mentions Woodson's need for being retired. The bots (not BOTs) are out in full force. Seen it once before... coach gets fired shortly after. Come on Chris make it happen, fire Woodson!

No one knows basketball more than him. He tells you in his pressers how much it is everyone else fault but his. Guys with these egos think they can always turn it around because no one is smarter than them.

I've heard it both ways This really becomes political rather than who out ranks who. The BOT is a board and requires a certain number of members to agree. No one person has more of a vote than the other. But, the Chair always has more persuasion because, well he's the chair. Whitten serves at the pleasure of the BOT. They hire and fire her. So she, at a minimum needs a majority to stand behind her actions. Dolson, I believe, would be under Whitten -- she would hire/fire, but likely with the Board's approval. Bottom line, if Dolson can get Whitten (his boss) and a majority of Trustee behind him (Whitten's bosses), Buckner can't do squat except cry. thebigweave, AZ Hoosier, Home Jersey and 5 others 8

What is a realistic timeline in your eyes of us knowing what is actually gonna happen? I know if we move on might depend on how Pearl does in the tournament but I believe a decision would leak strongly before he even loses. So we looking at a week after season or two weeks after? What’s your opinion on us seeing some sort of resolution to this circus that is going on or a leaked decision? I think March 18th is the earliest we hear something. If Woodson is back they'll 100% release a statement or something.

Sent from my SM-A146U using Tapatalk Exactly, this is what I have been saying. Dolson is smart, I'm sure he sees the same problems we do. But he needs some L's to make the narrative for him, and put pressure on Buckner. Otherwise I'm not sure he will put his career on the line to cross his bosses. If we get a few more losses, I think it's an easier sell. Otherwise, he's not gonna waste all his political capital right now when he could stay safe for another year and make the firing much easier for him after year 4.
