rcbowla Posted February 28, 2024 Posted February 28, 2024 Last year was Dusty's 5th year at FAU and he took them to the final four... FAU. Sure, he may not turn things around instantly. People are still gonna have more patience for May than Woody, yes. Woody is nearing retirement and has no recruiting momentum. That right there has his tenure dead in the water. It would be different if we had more guys signed. Relying on the portal to build an entire team is partly where people are so frustrated. How can we be optimistic about a team that doesn't exist yet where 6-9 guys who don't even know it right now will be playing for us? With that much roster turnover, it won't be totally dissimilar to the environment Crean (yes the context is massively different). Between his current team that he can take with him, his ties with the state, and track record building FAU... I am comfortable with that risk vs. this known quantity. I do think most fans would be on board with the idea of giving Dusty May at LEAST 4 seasons, to answer your Q.I think it's circumstantial on how long the fan base would give Dusty. As long as there was progress from year to year and sustained recruiting momentum I think people would give him time. Hell, if Woody would've landed Fland I think people would be more willing to give him next year. You have to give the fans a reason to have faith in you. We haven't had that from a coach since Knight for various reasons. Sent from my SM-G996U using Tapatalk Ryno6284, Bowhunter, Home Jersey and 1 other 3 1

Hornsby Posted February 28, 2024 Posted February 28, 2024 Print out a list of guards 6'4 or taller and throw darts at them. Whoever we hit we go afterSeems like he will first have recruit the current players hard to at least get some to stay so he doesn't have fill 10 spots in the portal. So, are we all in agreement that the majority of the fanbase will allow Dusty to learn on the job. Take many years to become a what this fanbase wants? Which is way better than what Crean was? I can’t see that at all. So you are banking on Dusty being the man from day one. No down years in year 3/4 or 5. The option for a guy like Dusty was when we hired Archie. Now 2 coaches later, either the expectations with fans have to reset or… we can’t hire him. It's hard to say my friend. I just want this program to be respected once again. I want to compete for championships. I want to see a well coached product on the floor. Archie didn't bring that in 4 years here and he isn't bringing it at Rhode Island so far. Coach Woodson hasn't brought that in 3 years and is trending the wrong direction. tkbbn, thebigweave, Ngw7183 and 2 others 5

If you can’t, wait for it and keep working all next year to find that guy. What is one more year and who knows, maybe Woody surprises the majority and kills it next year. Just curious, what is the "sure thing". How would you define that? Who would be a "sure thing" in your opinion?

I'm not big on just dissing guys on stats. He also shot 2-3 and 1-2 from the arc for 5 points. That wasn't the point. That's not dissing guys on stats, those were literally his stats. However, I will diss a 6th year, 24 year old man for the way he has represented this team/university with his dirty play and uncalled for actions. Leaders don't lead this way. Finding a play making, three point threat, B10 ready starting point guard isn’t going to be “easy” for this staff. You feel this staff can rebuild this roster by convincing players that the offense is going to completely change…. I don’t. And that’s just one spot. Thinking about 5+ spots more is not going to be “easy”. And what if they don’t land a starting point guard? What then? He's never won the Big 12 or Big 12 Tournament, but he's made the NCAA Tournament. Is that "proven"? Would Otzelberger even consider the IU job as an upgrade? An up-and-coming mid-major coach may be our only option. Good post. Almost every program builds through hiring those up and coming guys, we are lucky to have the top up-and-comer be an alum. One note: I like TJ Otz a lot, but from what I hear he is very entrenched at ISU. Multiple stints as an Asst there. Super close with the AD, cosy with their donor base. Not impossible for him to leave but I would be shocked. Ryno6284 1
