IU in my opinion is still a top 10 job in the business despite the struggles for however long they have had them.   Doesn’t matter who they hire this cycle.  White Whale, Mid major coach, high level coach doesn’t matter IU will still be considered a top 10 job.

And it’s a top ten job despite lack of recent success.

Yeah.  It's a top 10 coaching job.

That is why we got Tom Crean.

That is why we got Archie Miller.

That is why we got Mike Woodsen.

Come to Indiana where you can end your career in 4 years.  giphy.gif

The only thing not top ten about the indiana job is the results.

Other programs fire their coaches before the 4 years is up

I respectfully point out that the coaching hires and the administration's decisions are not quite top 10 in my humble opinion.

That $1M raise he got in August 2023 drives me crazy.  He had not outperformed in any way that deserved a raise, and after getting the raise he completely fell apart.

It was completely undeserved, and all he did was meet what expectations should be. Even without that raise he'd be overpaid, Chris Jans is making 3.2.

We had 600 pages devoted to Bruce Pearl last year who was also never going to coach at IU.

The word is that the deal was done until Buckner played his nepotism card, vetoed the deal and kept the Wizard of Broad Ripple.

As BoT chair, he prevented the athletic director from performing his contractual duties in favor of propping up a feckless buddy.

So if you look at highest paid college coaches in 24, unless they have the facts wrong, mike Woodson is #13 highest paid college coach on that list. I don't know what it shows after bonuses etc.

At one point, Woodson was in the top 10. Miller was also top 10 for a bit.

Indiana didn't end any if their careers.

Being awful at Georgia ended Crean's.

Miller went to Rhode Island and has won 43% of his games.

Woodson's head coaching career ended in 2014 because he's a lousy coach; Indiana was just dumb enough to see that as a green flag.

You can add Mike Davis failed at mid-major UAB before turning things around at a low major, Texas Southern, and then failed again at Detroit Mercy. Only Kelvin Sampson has won at a high level post-IU, and he's the only one that didn't get fired for losing too many games.

Yeah, Davis continued working his way down the ladder after leaving IU. Sampson is the only legitimately good coach we've had in the last 25 years and he actually was winning.

Hmm, almost like IU can win with a good coach.

Paycheck-wise... but neither were close to top 10, performance-wise.

Some of them... and a few more not on this board...

But you go on hating... when we get the bandwagon rolling again, don't bother trying to hop back on...

Huh? I’ve never gotten off. I’ve never rooted for IU to lose or pretended I didn’t care. You’re barking up the wrong tree.

You didn't find Steven's masshole interview to be just even a little suspicious the last go around?

If he hadn't talked to IU why would he talk up the IU job, and then pull a complete 180?

This is just my opinion, but there has to be at least a little smoke, and I have to think that they have called him, and AD in the state of Indiana may have called him. Why wouldn't they?
