Doesn’t matter who they hire this cycle. White Whale, Mid major coach, high level coach doesn’t matter IU will still be considered a top 10 job. And it’s a top ten job despite lack of recent success. wirenuts and HoosierHoopster 2
Dave from Dayton Posted February 3, 2025 Posted February 3, 2025 Yeah. It's a top 10 coaching job. RMK...under the bus. Sampson...under the bus. That is why we got Tom Crean...bus. That is why we got Archie Miller...bust. That is why we got Mike Woodsen...still driving the bus over the cliff. Come to Indiana where you can end your career in 4 years. He had not outperformed in any way that deserved a raise, and after getting the raise he completely fell apart. It was completely undeserved, and all he did was meet what expectations should be. Even without that raise he'd be overpaid, Chris Jans is making 3.2. Dave from Dayton and tkbbn 1 1

Popular Post Home Jersey Posted February 3, 2025 Popular Post Posted February 3, 2025 Who cares about arbitrary rankings of how good or bad the IU job is? It has plenty good going for it - in the Big Ten, pays well, good NIL, fertile recruiting ground. Fanbase/brand/recent lack of success concerns set aside, that's still an attractive situation for a lot of very capable coaches. I know we've been whale hunting most of today but I'll settle for a dolphin... someone intelligent, able to adapt and organized. Personality and ability to be a visible face of the program is a huge factor obviously. Understanding the aura of IUBB in the culture and appreciating passionate, sometimes overzealous fans, is part of that. Suppose that could turn off some, but could just as well be appealing to an equal number of candidates. Don't think our pool of coaching upgrades is limited at all this cycle, so I am excited for the change, whoever that is. Looking forward to supporting a new coach who hopefully has a vision and a culture we can all buy into long term. WeeDerkaNaut, Silat Player, thebigweave and 12 others 14 1

I don't know what it shows after bonuses etc. At one point, Woodson was in the top 10. Miller was also top 10 for a bit.

Being awful at Georgia ended Crean's. Miller went to Rhode Island and has won 43% of his games. Woodson's head coaching career ended in 2014 because he's a lousy coach; Indiana was just dumb enough to see that as a green flag. Pagoda, Kentuckysucks, Ryno6284 and 14 others 16 1

You can add Mike Davis failed at mid-major UAB before turning things around at a low major, Texas Southern, and then failed again at Detroit Mercy. Only Kelvin Sampson has won at a high level post-IU, and he's the only one that didn't get fired for losing too many games. thebigweave, Dave from Dayton, cybergates and 1 other 3 1

Sampson is the only legitimately good coach we've had in the last 25 years and he actually was winning. Hmm, almost like IU can win with a good coach. cybergates, thebigweave, Ryno6284 and 2 others 5

wirenuts Posted February 3, 2025 Posted February 3, 2025 It doesn't matter. I don't know about other posters on this board, but I find myself asking would I rather have a coach that is mentioned here as a replacement or Woodson back. The other coach has won every time. It doesn't even matter which coach was mentioned. Ryno6284, BannerVille, tkbbn and 2 others 4 1

You’re barking up the wrong tree. You didn't find Steven's masshole interview to be just even a little suspicious the last go around? If he hadn't talked to IU why would he talk up the IU job, and then pull a complete 180? This is just my opinion, but there has to be at least a little smoke, and I have to think that they have called him, and AD in the state of Indiana may have called him. monskisprodigy Posted February 3, 2025 Posted February 3, 2025 @AH1971 You have maybe posted this, but I likely missed it in the billions pages. If you don't think Stevens, May, Pearl are realistic, what is your list of candidates you would like to see / that you think would have interest?
