If we have to shelve the Beard talk, fine. But unless it's Steven's probably, can we also shelve uniting the fan base with next hire. Ain't no hire going to accomplish that. Therefore, fire or retire... I think should be slogan going forward

Here's a hypothetical for you...

Say it eventually turns out that Stevens is the guy. Presumably a deal would be in place sometime in, say, the next month or so. When do you announce it? Immediately, to give notice to portal recruits, etc.? Or after IU's season is officially over, to avoid distractions for the current team?

Winning will unite the fanbase. That is true whether it's Brad Stevens, Dusty May, Mick Cronin, Chris Beard, Ben McCollum, or someone that no one has yet considered.

A few names would generate immediate excitement and win the press conference and national media attention, but even those names would need to consistently win to make (almost) everyone happy.

I don't make enough money to make those kind of decisions. But if it was me, I would announce it as soon as I can. I'm not worried about distractions for the current team. They've lost 7 of 8 and got us to this point

but you miss 100% of the shots you don't take.  Keep shooting away and come on home Brad!  Actually, have Goode shoot the offer over to Brad.  He's near the top in 3pt shooting % in the Big Ten this season.
