Be honest. If you guys had a time machine to go back to your younger self and change your fandom, would you?  Just knowing what I know about the type of administration we have and have had I'm 50/50.  I do love the campus though and friends I made but the sports experience oooof.

Wow... can't tell you how many times I've had this discussion with myself... the first one was the day Myles Brand was hired as university president... and then, pretty regularly ever since.

Nope. Not a chance.

Was born and raised in Indiana and graduated from IU. Wouldn't trade that for anything. I was in school for one hoops natty and was alive for three others. Saw an NCAA soccer title when I was in school. Lotta fun.

I grew up in NW Indiana, so I always followed Chicago sports teams (Colts weren't around until I was in high school). I've lived in Minnesota, Texas and for the past 20 years -- Virginia. All those years later, my favorite sports teams still are Cubs, Bears, Bulls, Blackhawks and for college -- IU across the board.

I think I should get a third graduate degree there simply because my family is lucky with IU sports.  My mom attended IU when the team went undefeated. As an undergrad we went to the final four and won a soccer championship.  I did a year program later and was there for the best Crean year but we won a soccer championship again.lol

Not what you said but ok.

It is a solid data point. Would be nice if we put same thoughts into all data points. We don’t do that often around here. We go with gut. Or “IU fans know ball”

My problem with May is not enough data. The data set is too small. That data could change fast with a flame out down the stretch. Then he is gone and the clock starts again wherever he is.

Same with Schertz in this data set. But his D2 stuff is very, very intriguing and enough data there to show he is probably the real deal.

If you can find any post or tweet where I said Connor Essegian is 100% transferring to IU, then I will Venmo you $10,000 as soon as you make that post. That is a promise.

I can tell you with confidence that IU is Essegian’s dream school. If Woody offered him a scholarship he would transfer. Obviously it would all have to be done through back channels, but the door is open on one side. Trust me on this one. This could be revisited next off season as well.

…. Yes.

College at IU was a good time. Being a fan of IU is, largely, pretty miserable. I became a fan in middle school because my grandpa was a huge fan. My iubb experience has been Kelvin Sampson, Tom Crean, Archie Miller, and Mike Woodson. Pretty brutal.

There’s little reason for kids today to become IU fans absent familial reasons. Hate to say it, but being a Purdue fan would be a much more enjoyable experience for them.

Again, I explained all this with essay’s yesterday. 90% of you don’t agree. Not worth going over again.

I see multiple comments from you that there are better options and that we should wait for those better options, but I haven't found a post where you articulate what those better options are or why we should wait on them.

He'd need to get in the portal first, for that to even be a possibility.

This was last off-season. I used to coach some of Conor's teammates and friends in AAU. It was well known amongst all of us that IU was Essegian's dream school. He was never offered out of HS but continued to be his dream to play for them even after his freshman year of college where he made the All-Freshman team. If he would have entered the portal, it would have been because someone related to IU's staff would have reached out to him to gauge his interest.

Same thing is happening right now with a couple of IU's players during the season no less..

I mean, he's better than Gunn, but he doesn't really do that much for me. Buuuuut... I could see him being a Zeisloft. I can also understand Woody not being interested out of HS. Not some damning decision by him.

What worries me is when I'm told that Woodson is going to get the chance to get us back on track. To me that suggests that the administration thinks we were on track the last two seasons.

This will be the straw that breaks the camels back.  Many fans are ready to stop caring.

Part of me thinks maybe that’s for the best.

Totally agree and his minutes dropped from 24 to 8 this season because of his defense.

With that said, we left a scholarship wide open this season so it would have only been beneficial to add another guard. Not a big deal, but given its our weakest spot, would have been nice to have depth from a guy who shot 35% from 3 last year as a freshman.

It would just be nice to have him instead of CJ Gunn, he would be a part of what we need. I am still frustrated with our process to get good shots, more so than anything. CE needs people or a system to get shots for him, nothing wrong with that. Undoubtedly the depth would have been huge.

Gosh I hope the move by Ohio State intensifies the possible talks from Dolson and Co of just getting Woodson to retire. I know nothing another school does should have anything to do with us, but it could indeed end up being a domino that affects who we want to go after. Instead of making sure we get choice #1, we just end up settling and having to go with someone else because another school got our guy. They’re a football school and are making the move to get rid of their basketball coach before the season is even over.

One thing I can see as another possible reason for Woodson staying another year aside from his chance of getting back on track, is Dolson thinking May is our guy and already having discussions with him about taking over. Let Woodson get 4th year, try to turn things around through portal, then peacefully retire and May comes in. A way we can think this is a possible scenario is if we see these other jobs opening up after this season, and Dusty May making the decision to want to stay put at FAU next year.

It’s just not gonna be any fun at all to see Woodson end up getting some guards and then it not matter at all because of how he chooses to use them. I know it seems to be easy to say that it’s because the guards we have this year just aren’t that good but dang it that’s on him. He said himself that the only reason why we played a certain way was because we had Trayce and once he’s gone then we’ll a completely different style. Nope…just plug in Ware and Sparks into Trayce’s position and do the same ol stuff. TJD and JHS made him look really good, and he thinks he needs NBA ready type guys to be successful and there are coaches who have boat raced him with players who aren’t.

I’d love to be proven wrong if he ends up getting good guards and he changes his style to use them the right way, but until then, I just don’t have confidence he’ll do that based off what he’s chosen to do thus far. As of now the only thing I expect is for him to get guards to teach how to feed the ball to the post.

He would be Gabe Cupps in our offense.  I don't think all of our guards just are going off script and doing the opposite of what they are coached to do.  If they have a guy closing on them at the 3 line, they are told to shot fake and take a dribble or two inside the arc and shoot.  They all do it, that is coaching.  I think Adragna posted something last week on Twitter that had fast break 3's and 3's that were the result of a pass out from the post as two types of three point shots we had the best percentage of hitting.  We have 2 centers that rarely kick the ball out and we never run.  That is coaching.

I think Essegian would be a nice bench piece on a system team.  Indiana is not that nor is it likely to be that while Woodson is here.  We are Mercenary U and the transfer portal will be our free agency.  We are also likely to be a +/- 3 20-10 team every year with that philosophy.  And the University will love that because that is just good enough to keep all the schmuck fans on the hook to keep giving them money.

I fully believe the only reason we made a move in football this year is because they got scared enough with all the conference realignment to realize their Big Ten gravy train was in jeopardy if they didn't start to take that more seriously.  Indiana doesn't care about winning, they care about money.  They haven't figured out that a whole lot of the former is what led to the latter current situation they find themselves in.  The people currently running it into the ground (if they are still around) are in for a rude awakening when the Boomers and Old Gen X alumni are truly replaced by Millenial and younger fans who have had a mediocre to sh*t product their entire lives.  That is when all the money dries up.  When all those older casual fans who maybe never even had a tie to IU are gone.
