Fire Coach Woodson Thread

He’s done at the end of the season regardless.

The admin is just being cautious about a mid-season change because not every coach and media person in the country has been watching for four years and understands. It’s maybe not a good look as a program to be moving on from a coach with a winning record and above .500 conference record. Unless a string of games or bad loss is in the forefront of things. Just let it play out. Our schedule is about to get hairy, and Woody isn’t learning to coach suddenly in February.

He’s gone even if they rattle off some miracle wins, squeak in the dance, and make the S16?

Unlikely but Woody seems to always go on some miracle wins streak at the end of every year.

Yeah I don’t particularly care for any of the players on this roster. Maybe my hatred of Woodson has poisoned my feelings toward them, but I’m perfectly fine with an entirely new team next season. Clear house entirely.
It's clear you don't need to pay guys 800k to win games. Woodson has two 800k guys on the bench while getting smoked by guys probably making 200k. He just threw money at anyone ranked high. Clean house.

….just think of it this way. Most every young man or woman has dreams of playing in the NBA or WNBA to get that big money. They know if they get there they have reached the pinnacle. Some of these   are getting paid NIL money in college that they probably won’t be making in the NBA or even oversees.

Well he never had to assemble a roster before he got this job, so what did you expect?

That fact just makes hiring him even dumber.

In the long term, it’s better to have both a good coach and money to pay players.

Good coaches can absolutely win with the roster we have, regardless of the I’ll fit.

Worst case, the Bosnian decommits with a coaching change.  Best case, new coach is a home run guy and he stays.  I don’t see the down side.

Haven't seen it posted, why do we think we are getting him?

Based on nothing, but my money is on Wisconsin in this race.

Personally, I think admin is worrying too much about ‘the optics’.  The media HATED the Woodson hire.  The talking heads who wrote ill about the Miller and crean firings were guys who had personal relationships with them.

How do you know what they are worrying about

I’m not a huge fan of a lot of the roster because the parts simply don’t fit the problems with Woody’s systems (or lack thereof). That said, it would be objectively hilarious for a new coach to come in, keep everyone with eligibility and immediately turn it around. There’s a decent to good team here, it’s just lacking any identity, cohesion, or modern coaching. I can picture a lot of coaches that could take this roster and rattle off 25ish wins.

I have the sense that the players wouldn't be game for the culture shock that would be coming their way. I talked to Hulls two summers at a golf event ago before last season started, and he said the intensity of practices had materially increased with additions of Gabe and Payton Sparks (not sure what that says about TJD and Kopp's last year). Both of those guys are gone/not playing, so I would imagine the current guys aren't being challenged all that much from an intensity perspective. A lot of speculation on my part, but I would bet it's true.

I agree with you. I guess I’m thinking more from his part, with a coach who’s guaranteed to be fired. Question for anyone who may know: if a player signs an NIL deal & a coaching change occurs is the contract amount still valid or would it become negotiable?

Jerry just posted earlier that they're waiting for the right moment to pull the trigger. He's also said that from an outsider's view, firing him with our current record would throw up red flags. We all know why Woodson needs to be gone but I don't think he's wrong.

Woodson and Ferguson are probably offering him a crazy amount of the cooks money the new coach may not think he is worth. It's the only way Woodson can get guys. Overpay. Plus anyone Woodson recruits to me now is a red flag. Mcnelly was smart he wanted no part of woodson.

No idea why this kid would want to play for Woodson over wisconsin.
