I think that is the safest thing to do since we have been burnt before. Others are better at it than I am. I get my hopes up every time.

Everything you post I appreciate and I'm sure everyone does.  But you get my hopes up a lot as well LOL.

I'd really like to know how the conversation works in the background.

Wonder if an IU/Dolson rep reaches out to Pearl's agent and says "hey, if you're BSing / using this for leverage, that's fine, happy to play along, just let us know so we can lock up Dusty before makes a decision on Ohio State"

He's not messing around anymore. He also said that Buckner let Dolson pursue Stevens the first time, then pushed Woodson ahead of everyone else after Stevens said no.

I’d be interested to know who was on the short list after Stevens said no.

It is in my blood and have watched my whole life(53) so I won't stop now.

I feel that way too; however, this type of decision could start pushing me the other way

He seems disinterested in the most important aspect of building a program. Imagine if Mgbako's mother hadn't reached out to Woodson? We may have literally never gotten involved. We probably took him without any assessment based on his rating alone. How will we ever field a team with a system or chemistry... or both?

He landed one stud in the portal last year. Because of the lack of recruiting, he's going to have to fill 4-6+ spots in the portal. If he's only going after ready made guys, you're banking on an awfully successful portal.

All the stuff off the court is as much a negative as the product on the court. But making the donors aware of that/fully appreciating it, is probably a tough task when they're getting counter narratives that support Woody based on false hope.

So I guess we're really going to give him 1 last go round, then have the next coach step into a truly bare cupboard situation.

Like there were no expectations from day one? Why do you think Fife and Matta were added to the staff? Because Woodson had no clue what the job required... and then he completely ignored input from both of them...

Fair, but in this case it would be specific...X number of days on the road recruiting or you don't get year 5. At which point, Woodson has to weigh how much he wants the job (for at least one more year).

But he's also grabbing at any/all 5-start players regardless of need (by position) or fit on the team... and 5-star or not, he ignored the biggest need on HIS roster: guards and shooters.

Exactly!  He doesn’t seem to have a roster construction plan other than fill it with as high of recruits as possible no matter what position they play

I know LeBron is a big OSU fan...just not clear why he's pushing May.

Totally an opinion, but my guess is he sees May as the biggest pushover of any potential candidate they may hire and because of that can use his influence on the program without being told no. I've watched a few USC games this year with LeBron in attendance and one notably was an away game at Cal where LeBron was literally on the floor at halftime of the shoot around talking with players of BOTH teams. There's no way a seasoned coach like McDermott or Sean Miller would allow such a charade to take place.

Personally, I'm hoping when I'm at the game next Sunday that it will be a senior night/Mike Woodson retirement ceremony.  If not, IU playing poorly could result in some boos on senior night.

Maybe Woody can give a goodbye speech during senior night as well.  He announces that he is stepping down after the BTT.

I know I cannot post screenshots or anything. @btownqb @Tasmanian Devil @kottke

He is going back over everything he has said recently and that they are FACTS of the issues with Woodson, not his opinion.

Skipping recruiting days over the last 3 years.

Recruits hearing from other HC more than Woodson.

Needs major help from the portal to overhaul a roster.

Choosing to pursue "ready-made" players instead of recruiting and developing HS kids

Woodson publicly stating 2 point shots are good while having one of the worst 3 point rates 3 years in a row.

"HS, AAU, and other coaches/trainers have heard very little from a certain HC over the course of 3 years, that's a fact"

"some of those are both facts and patterns"

"It's March of year 3. It took until Feb. for Woodson to go see Sisley and Mullins, two of the top in-state prospects and he didn't see Mullins in a game until the sectional semifinals.

All of these reasons are exactly why it would make zero sense to bring Woodson back. I cannot fathom why this is such a "difficult" decision outside of QB and company wanting to keep their buddy at the helm. Bringing him back to just fire him next year and losing out on guys like Bruce Pearl, Scott Drew, or Dusty May would be inexcusable. They cannot afford to bring him back. He has no future with this program.

Sounds like Rabby just added a note on the Fland recruitment that will make some peoples blood boil.

A lot of people on Trilly's discord are speculating Dolson must have asked Rabby to unload on Woody.

I’m about to get really pissed if he cost us Boogie Fland to UK

Yep. 7 reasons right there and none have anything to do with this seasons record or outcomes.

I don't subscribe to Peegs but from what I am reading on Trilly's discord, sounds like Woody "didn't jump in and that ultimately screwed him" ... not sure exactly what they mean by jumping in. But people are pointing out he was prioritizing Dylan Harper earlier in the cycle. Dylan Harper who was ALWAYS going to Rutgers.

This recruiting strategy is so broken. If he is back next year we need to create a GM role as soon as the season ends and let them "own" the 2025+ recruiting plan.

Do we really think influential people read or care what message boards or Rabjohns thinks? I mean…I’ve been a message board guy for a long time, but I always assumed it was just regular folk like me chatting about basketball.  I find it hard to believe it sways anyone, but I could be way off on that.

With that said, seeing what I would consider athletic department friendly journalists open fire on Woody does make me think there’s a little smoke. I’m still sticking with my position that Woody is back, but if you’re losing the Peegs/Rabjohns and ITH’s of the world it’s probably not a great sign with regards to internal cohesiveness.

I don't think any influential people are reading those boards, but I do think that type of chatter helps shape the narrative for the more casual fans (which these donors/alum, etc. most likely fall into that category).

I think right now, I agree with how you see it playing out ultimately.
