You’re obviously not familiar with the opposition.  It was in no way a slam dunk.  5-4 with the Mayor breaking the tie.

I am familiar.

A lot of the opposition was due to the addition of allowing the venue to be used for concerts (ie not a woke agenda to eradicate masculine sports).

It passed.

Opposition to stadiums happens all the time. Even Jerry Jones encountered opposition in Texas because some thought there were better purposes for the land.

I think it’s going to be Jason Candle by the end of the week

If that turns out to be the move it certainly makes sense. And I would think from Dolson’s perspective he would be incredibly easy to judge. He’s been there 9 years. It’s his program end to end. His players. His coaches. His system. His culture. Whole deal. So the only thing you have to get comfortable with is what his plan for this mess would look like.

I'd get more on board with Fitzgerald if I avoided looking at his last 3 or 4 seasons at Northwestern.

NU would have tolerated the hazing fiasco if he was still winning 7-10 games per year.

I'm no Fitzgerald superfan.  And his recent records are a concern.  Sometimes coaches get stale at their current gig and a change of scenery gives them new blood, so to speak.

In the end, I just want someone competent on the football side of things that can give us some "Football Saturdays."

Statement from Tom Allen:

It has been my greatest professional honor to serve as Indiana’s head football coach for the past seven years.  Representing this University and this State has meant more to me than you can imagine.  Our entire journey here has been based on a simple concept – Love.  Each.  Other.  It’s what we’ve done, it’s what we’ll always do.  I continue to believe it’s a recipe to change the world.  There have been so many incredible memories made and relationships formed.  I’ll always be grateful for the players, coaches and staff who believed in our vision and gave their heart and soul for this program.

College football has changed dramatically over the past several years.  Some of those changes have been a shock to the conscience of those who support IU football.  The time has come to fully embrace those changes and I pray that IU does just that.

To each and every player who put on the Crimson and Cream over the past 7 seasons, I love you, thank you and God bless.

As a person, it seemed like he showed nothing but class and character while coaching here, sad that it didn’t work out.

That being said, that second paragraph seems like a pretty direct shot at some people in/surrounding the program…

Sounds an awful lot like his post game press conferences to me. Loved his statement but that part just rubs me the wrong way, right or wrong. (And he’s right)

I wish I had a dollar for every booster that tried to push a coach that had no chance of getting hired at IU, lol.

I had heard a rumor heading into Purdue game week that Allen was done after yesterday, and that Gruden was the guy.

One of those things happened, but I took the second thing for what it was…a rumor. Interesting to hear his name is being pushed, but still would be very surprised if not shocked, if we went that route.

Certainly a safe hire. Is Jason candle going to be Matt Campbell or Todd Boeckman? Toss of a coin hiring MAC coaches. Fits Dolson’s pay grade.

Any idea what changes Allen might be referring to? Facilities, assistant coaching salaries, NIL, portal? Or just deflecting blame?

He is deflecting blame, but we do need help in everything you listed also.

Mellencamp is an embarrassing disaster. It’s dangerous to even practice in. They don’t even show it to recruits. A rusty, dark, dirty cave with uneven turf. The stadium itself needs quite a bit of love too. Meeting rooms/player lounge/locker room are actually surprisingly nice, however.

Allen had to pay, with his own money, to fire an already poorly paid OC.

We probably have 4 guys earning serious NIL money. We probably need some sort of collective situation like Utah has to get everybody a nice chunk. We don’t have anything like that, to my knowledge.
