Artie86 Posted March 19 Posted March 19 ..... Cignetti is also big on preserving the culture of his program. He says he won’t budge when transfer prospects make demands. “When I have a guy and they want to be promised this or that, playing time, they’ve told me ‘I’m going to start,’ no, no. I’ve never done that and never would,” Cignetti said. “How could I possibly not lose the locker room if I’m promising guys that they will do this or they will do that? Everything’s earned.” ......it's so comforting knowing that we have a leader in Coach Cignetti who always sticks to his guns without hesitation. When any coach in any sport can get that rare type of respect followed by repeated, positive results,....it's thing of beauty! AZ Hoosier, Happydaze, taco corp and 3 others 6 Quote
TTT Posted April 3 Posted April 3 I know it’s probably pretty easy to do National Champs 16-0 and at IU. Cignetti seems to have unmatched player relationships with players. They all (the ones who were impactful/had anything to do with anything seem to like him and enjoy being around him and have this love for him. ALASKA HOOSIER 1 Quote
Artie86 Posted April 23 Posted April 23 https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/curt-cignetti-reveals-indiana-real-095817689.html .....This article is an excellent read. Coach Cignetti is proof positive that,... the way you coach, your knowledge of the entire game and how you get buy in from coaches and players is the absolute pinnacle to success! Yes, we had to spend money, but not anywhere close to the degree that most think. Those results were all Coach Cignetti. On the flip side, it reminded me of how much money Coach Woodson spent on IU's roster, his last year. It was reported to be top 5 at 5-6 mil. He had to spend more money to keep MgBako and Reneau from leaving and pay bigger money just to convince Omar Ball to come to IU. That roster under performed and totally exposed Woodson's lack of coaching in all fases. He had to spend big money and it still didn't help. Quote

I think woody’s coaching was exposed long before this squad ever took the floor at IU Quote

He had no clue what he was in for with the college game and certainly with regard to recruiting. Thank the Almighty that NIL was a thing, otherwise, I wonder what kind of talent he could attract. But as DeVries told us, a team is much more than a collection of players. Fit is important, team chemistry is critical as well having a basic scheme of how he expects the team to play. Thankfully, that nightmare is over. We can hopefully forget what a disaster it was and focus on Coach DeVries and what appears to be a promising sophomore season. Quote
