Whatever the reason, I'm happy he's part of the team. if he wants to get into coaching, having another coach on the floor can only help. hoosierbgh 1 Quote

That could describe Jordan Geronimo and many others. Gunn hasn’t had a good game yet, Bates at least had 6+ good games for us last year being one of our top scorers while shooting over 50% while doing it In those games. Gunn, not yet BGleas 1 Quote

Crafty and athletic enough to fit nicely with better scorers, good touch around the rim to maybe keep some bench units afloat if he needs to, better passer than I thought. Wonder how often he’ll guard down the defensive spectrum, as he seems like he could mark some big wings. Walker has been a very pleasant surprise so far. I expect there will be more than a few games this year where he sneaks in to kill the opposing team while they are focused on stopping Reneau, Ware, or MM. This team has a lot of length and athleticism to throw at opponents and having someone with Walker's experience and energy as one of those guys coming off of the bench only magnifies the impact. This team has a long way to go and a lot of things to improve upon but there are a lot of pieces to like. tkbbn and HoosierHoopster 2 Quote
HoosierFan1994 Posted November 4, 2023 Posted November 4, 2023 I'll echo what many of you have said. November/December might be rough but February/March could be a lot of fun. 1) Anthony Walker is going to be a great pick up. Looks like a 6th man of the year contender in the conference. 2) LOVE Cupps. Scoring wise I don't know how big of an impact he will have this year but as far as quarterbacking the offense as well as defense he is going to be a major factor. 3) I felt like last year post X injury IU relied on offense from Trayce and Jalen. This year I think X, Mackenzie, Malik, and Kel'el are all capable of being double figure scorers. Probably the last time IU had that with four players was in 2013/2016. It's hard to take much away from these games. A little more interested this year because of all the new pieces. The first major test will be November 19. It'll be fun to see how they stack up against UConn. hoosierfan6157, HoosierHoopster, Redcamaro and 1 other 4 Quote

rcbowla Posted November 4, 2023 Posted November 4, 2023 I just watched a 25 minute game highlights replay. Guess who was the key more than anyone else when we got out in transition? CJ GunnCJ shoots too much. He had a particularly terrible shot he took in 1st half where he pulled up and took contested long 2 with probably 15 seconds or more on the clock. My only issue with him is that he needs to find the better shot even if that means he can't shoot on that possession. His role really shouldn't be volume shooter and I doubt that's what the staff wants from him either.Sent from my SM-G996U using Tapatalk WayneFleekHoosier, Home Jersey, go iu bb and 1 other 4 Quote

JSHoosier Posted November 5, 2023 Posted November 5, 2023 Just exhibitions but some thoughts. Cupps looked like he belongs already. Just smart, steady plays and minimizing stupid mistakes. How he does get real game competition will be interesting. Banks could develop into a player that does a little but of everything. A good piece to have. Gunn is not afraid to shoot, but does need to work on shot selection. He could help if he can play defense and provide some scoring off the bench, doesn't need to be all conference. Ware could bring an element we didn't have with Jackson-Davis, a big that can stretch the floor. Reneau looked better. Mgbako made some questionable decisions, but the talent is definitely there. FT shooting was refreshing. Need to work on closing out on shooters. Dave from Dayton, Joe_hoopsier, ALASKA HOOSIER and 3 others 6 Quote

CJ Gunn Cherry picking a few points against a high school level team doesn’t make him better than Tamar Bates. not sure if there was anyone in D-1 last year that had a poorer shooting percentage than him but sadly that wasn’t what kept him on the bench behind Bates , it was his D or the lack thereof - per one of the assistants BGleas and ALASKA HOOSIER 2 Quote

Demo Posted November 5, 2023 Posted November 5, 2023 Ryan’s right here. Also interesting that in the past Johnson would have immediately screened away here to delay any doubling of the post from the top. I assume the they haven’t changed that and it’s just a matter of Mgbako catching and shooting. Either way, man, is that good to see. ALASKA HOOSIER and Henryville Hoosier 2 Quote
rcbowla Posted November 5, 2023 Posted November 5, 2023 I finally had a chance to watch this. Is it safe to say that Walker appears to be what we hoped Geronimo would be last year? Marian is not great, but I liked a lot of what I saw from IU. I'd say you're spot on. And he'll be better in that role. His IQ will make him much better in that high post spot against zones.Sent from my SM-G996U using Tapatalk Quote
