He seems like a punk to me and I don't like anything about him.

TL/DR summary: everyone remembers he got UNC to the NC game. No one recalls that he's often below average the other 2.5 seasons

So you don't like his game, how he plays, don't think he's a good fit. Got it.

The "he's a cancer, seems like a punk and I don't like anything about him" is probably, at best, a bit much.

I find it strange that with all the portal movement the last few years that the only program that is having these problems are UM.  I don't remember seeing any other school turning away a player because of credits not transferring

We have posters that want to join that illustrious group!

Funny they have taken a few transfers the last few years. They took Joey Baker from Duke and he had been at Duke for 3 years.

Joey Baker came to UM right after having graduated. Same with Mike Smith. Therefore, they had no issues with credits transferring.

I deal with UNC and Duke and I can assure you that's not the case. Every university is different. If Duke wanted him he would have been in.

Yup. Back in the day K recruited a Chicago PG named Sean Dockery who was considered such an academic nonstarter that he had very few offers and wasn’t even recruited by Illinois. But he got into Duke.

Michigan’s transfer policies relevant to this recruitment (and Terrence Shannon, etc.) are explained here: https://mgoblog.com/content/exit-he-arrived-caleb-love

Best to not besmirch the student here, I think. And no, not a bad look for IU to take credits UM doesn’t take.

Nice find. Also find it interesting that I have yet to see an article, comment or tweet from any Michigan fan or writer that blames Love. They know the deal.

The problem isn’t just that they turn them away IMO.  The bigger problem (for both the players and their coaching staff) is that they accept their commitments and then turn them away.

This is where I drew my opinion. I noticed (and before this recruitment/fiasco) that many UM fans were NOT happy with their admissions.

This. They say "yes", and then the recruit shuts down his recruitment... then UM says "um, sorry, we meant 'no'", and the recruit is left holding a great big bag of nothing.

I could see this happening once, maybe twice, but it seems to be a pretty frequent occurrence in Ann Arbor... at some point the recruits are going to stop trying to get in there...

Did UM say no or did they basically say these classes would not transfer and thus he would have to retake them and chose not to

I think clearly he was admitted, but UM’s policies meant he’d be further from graduation than many other places, which could be an NCAA SAP issue.

Here’s my thing on Love: and I can’t think of another player i’ve thought this about: his jump shot improving in college hurt his game. Saw him a lot in HS. Liked him, didn’t love him because he floated for too many stretches. But he had 2 things that really stood out: 1) He was an elite on ball defender. Great lateral movement. Disciplined with his hands. He could shut really good kids down. 2) He could get downhill on almost anyone and finished easily through contact. When CBC needed a basket they’d go 4 low and he’d just drive it and get a shot or a foul. If that player showed up in Bloomington minus the inactive stretches and could wean himself off some of the really bad looks, would take him in a second. But he has so fallen in love with the 3 ball and all that freedom. Hubert did that kid no favors.

His stats tell a story: he isn’t efficient and he’s a ball hog. Why would we want a ball hog who isn’t good at shooting?

I think it would be a mistake to bring him in based off of what we’ve seen from his prior 3 years in college basketball. That’s not a small sample size. We know what he does on the basketball court in college.

On the defensive end, he is a plus defender.  I would also say that he hasn't been efficient and has been a ball hog with the caveat that Hubert Davis was his coach.  Whether he can be controlled would depend on coach and Love.

IMO, if Woodson was willing to give Love the leash he wanted, he would be here because Juwan Howard has been very public about Michigan being behind in NIL money and Trilly Donovan has stated that Missouri is losing recruiting wars because of their inability to have good NIL deals in place.  IMO, Love choosing Michigan meant he felt it was important to his future to get more touches as opposed to immediate NIL gains.  Unless that has changed, I expect he'll look for another Michigan type of situation.  I could be wrong, but I think if he were to end up at IU that Woodson isn't going to give in to his expectations of being the guy the offense runs around.  If he were going to do so, Woodson would have been more likely to give into those demands back in April when the roster needed an injection of talent as opposed to now when the roster has added one of the most sought after portal entries, a top ten 2023 recruit, and received word that the starting point guard was returning.
