The things I keep reminding myself of that I see as positives are:

1) Woodson’s only been here for a year and a half, and we’re noticeably better than we were during Miller’s tenure

2) We’ve had a comparatively good year without having a full roster since Hoosier Hysteria (seems like), sometimes two or more players out at a time I think.

3) The defense and the culture/toughness seem to be better although still too inconsistent.

Just enjoy this year fellas. Transfer portal will help us we have bukoo minutes and $ available next year. Woodson said “get old and stay old” - 2 tourney appearances in 2 years

The outlook for next season is no different than it was after we beat Purdue, Rutgers or Michigan. No reason to dread it any more right now. 

 

Woodson knows guys who wanted to come last offseason when we didn't have room. I'm sure he'll reach out to some of them to see if they're still interested. He's got more to sell them than he did a year ago. 

 

I distinctly remember people saying last February that our women's team would stink this year because of how much they'd be losing and how little they had coming in. They kicked @$$ in the transfer portal and now we've got our best women's team ever. 

 

I think some of our fanbase still hasn't caught on and thinks it's 1995 where players only transferred when they weren't playing.

Fwiw. Blackhawk Christian was really fun to watch tonight. Beat Leo by 18 I think. Kellan Pickett did a little bit of everything. Score 18 or 20. Felt like he made virtually all his shots. 3s, soft spot in zone. 1 on 1 drives. Mid ranges. He looks good. Like he could be a Hauser type player as my comp.

Addressing #3: Archie has only been gone for 22 months.

Woodson said pregame they wanted to stop Hall and Hauser, and for the most part they did. Walker hit about 7 contested shots, 5 of which were 3s. Tip your cap and get ready for Purdue. 

I would be surprised if it were a blowout.

Always wait until the dust settles to see what the team looks like given the current state of the transfer portal.  Illinois lost their top five scorers from last year.  Their top three scorers this year are players that came to Illinois via the transfer portal.  Not saying it's going to be a great squad next year but IU has a lot to offer, in playing time, NIL, and national attention.

I’m holding off worry, or optimism, until after the season is over, HS recruiting is over ( we got JHS and Malik late) and after I see who stays and who we land in the portal.

The "window of opportunity" has been wide open this season for a handful of players and they refused to step up.  In the NBA they don't wait multiple seasons for a player to get their act together, and this program is supposedly modeled after pro teams, so CMW and staff need to be busy after this season concludes.
