He certainly doesn’t need it. If he takes a year off he’ll be 55 before he’d coach again. Would he be interested in an FCS job? Does he want to be a P5 DC? He's not even a good enough DC to go anywhere big. An FCS gig would be perfect for him. go iu bb 1 Quote

Tasmanian Devil Posted November 26, 2023 Posted November 26, 2023 I've known Tommy since the early 80s (his family went to Grace Baptist Church in New Castle, where the brother of my best friends in high school was the Pastor). Always refer to him as Tommy because his dad was Tom Allen, once coach at New Castle. As much as I hate it for the Allen family, this is the best for everyone involved. With the transfer portal and NIL, Allen was going to be behind the 8 ball in trying to recruit. IU now has to decide if they really want to have a winning football program or not. They don't have to be at the level of Alabama, Ohio State or Michigan. But there's no reason they can't be at the level of Wisconsin. They can be a consistent winner and occasionally contend for a conference championship. But the University has to be willing to invest in the program and provide the resources to be successful. theriverpilot, Artie86 and mamasa 2 1 Quote

That's not chasing a paycheck? Because it's at a school in those top 2 conferences that, by general optics, doesn't take it's football program seriously. Tom White 1 Quote

If they can do a good job selling those two things I don't see why we can't make a solid hire. Being one of the only B1G/SEC openings represents an advantage to the degree we've probably never had previously and certainly didn't have the last time we went outside our own building to make a hire. It's still early in the carousel but currently the only B1G and SEC openings are IU, Miss St, and Texas A&M, and Miss St seems to have their guy and A&M is shopping in an entirely different district. iuthruandthru Posted November 26, 2023 Posted November 26, 2023 There seems to be smoke of Day running to Texas A&M which would be hilarious as I am sure OSU is getting heat to dump him. Quote

I just really hate the ‘woe is us, who would want to come here’ attitude. Yeah, we’re not a good football program. We’re not going to go poach a rockstar. But we’re not a charity case either. We have solid things to offer. With NIL, the transfer portal, and conference realignment, it’s a new world in college football. We raised $20 million to fire Tom, which I didn’t think we could do. No reason we can’t go make a solid hire. LockdownD, thebigweave, craigyv88 and 3 others 6 Quote
