He was our best defensive guard, our best assist/turnover ratio guard, and our best 3point shooting guard. A starter? Indeed. I’ll ride with Gallo in our starting lineup any day all day. I really like Galloways game but in a perfect world I would have preferred us to have landed a three way 2 guard and for Trey to be a 20 minute plus 6th man like Sheehey. In the two BT tourney and NCAA games he scored a total of 12 points (114 minutes). In spite of all the other very valuable things he does you need more than 12 points, over 4 games, from your 2 guard. On a positive note he has improved every year so who knows what he might bring this season but we are an injury away from being “stretched” at the 1/2. ALASKA HOOSIER 1 Quote

8bucks Posted July 28, 2023 Posted July 28, 2023 I had forgotten until listening to Gallo on HH but he was injured/recovering much of the off-season last year which limited what he was able to work on. Nonetheless, he came into the season clearly better than the years before. I had been hopeful a summer without those injuries would allow him to add even more to his game. On the HH podcast he mentioned several areas he was working on, one being his outside shot on the move. He had become a great catch and shoot 3 point guy last year and this summer he is trying to transfer that over to being a strong outside shooter even when he is not standing still. Then listening to Woody on HH say he is the best one in the gym right now is very encouraging. That may not mean he averages close to 20 points a game this year but if he can become a legit offensive threat from anywhere while also being our best defender that would be huge for us. I wasn’t clear but meant that I was hoping Gallo would be our 6th man providing energy, attitude and be a valuable piece (20+ minutes) of the puzzle, like Will’s junior year, but didn’t mean they are the same type of player (in particular they had very different offensive roles). In any case, I’m a big fan of Gallo’s and hope he improves yet again this year as it would be beneficial if he is a consistent offensive threat this year. As others have said, I’m more worried about our guard depth should there be injuries than I am about Gallo as a 25 mpg starter. If Newton is healthy by December those worries will be alleviated. HoosierHoopster Posted July 28, 2023 Posted July 28, 2023 Gallo is an absolute starter in my book, regardless. What he brings in D, floor vision, experience, all around team play, energy and contribution to the team doesn't need restating. He turned a huge page this past season though. His weakness was outside shooting. Many thought his shot was just broken, and there was reason for that. But he turned a liability into a legit positive. Now though he has to take the step up to scoring more. Agree with @DChoosier's point about needing that scoring -- however, given what Gallo did this past season in developing a consistent, very good outside shot, his experience with the team and all the other plus values he brings, if he can / will shoot more and score at a better / higher level, with more takes, that's a better answer for me. The kid is a terrific all around player -- bring the scoring now, be more assertive in the offense, take on the role of scorer -- do that, and we're a better team for it. go iu bb, J34, hoosierbgh and 1 other 4 Quote

Not that it should have been a great team, but the talent was there for an NCAA tourney birth. We weren't the only B1G team to lose a lot of talent either. And we had Yogi, Sheehey and Vonleh. 8bucks Posted August 18, 2023 Posted August 18, 2023 Did they IU - Auburn game tickets go on sale this morning? I got an email from the site saying tickets would go on sale at 10am today but it seems it may be the other game. Firewall blocked me from checking here at work so navigating on the phone it appeared to be the other game. Quote
