Class of '66 Old Fart Posted February 14, 2022 Posted February 14, 2022 Feels like we're awfully close to do or die and something positive has to start happening and it needs to start Tuesday night. Badgers (19-5) (10-4) are long overdue for some Hoosier payback. Radio Live Stats ellen.walden, HoosierHoops1, FloridaHoosierGirl and 3 others 5 1 Quote
Loaded Chicken Sandwich Posted February 14, 2022 Posted February 14, 2022 Umm... Well I feel like a 4 game losing streak is coming. It's not been a good few weeks recently. We have the dominating wins over Maryland and Penn State in the last 6, but we are 2-4 and 3 of those losses were by 15+. This team, coaches and players, are gonna have to figure something out. TheWatShot Posted February 14, 2022 Posted February 14, 2022 I have a strange feeling we win this one. I wonder if we might try 2-3 zone at some point. I know people are wired to think IU playing zone = opponent bombing 3's, but I saw the last 6-7 minutes of the Rutgers-Wisconsin game Saturday. Rutgers went zone and the Badgers were flummoxed. Johnny Davis tried to take over the game and failed miserably. I doubt we get anywhere close to a 22 point lead this time, but we're not playing in the Call Center so that helps. Quote

WayneFleekHoosier Posted February 14, 2022 Posted February 14, 2022 Gotta win the home games starting here. Gotta get better. Wisconsin plays well as a team, but we should be able to beat them. HoosierHoopster, HoosierAloha, IU_FanClub and 1 other 4 Quote
Hoosier Guy Posted February 14, 2022 Posted February 14, 2022 I don’t think IU can win this game. Hope I’m wrong. I don’t see Wisconsin laying two eggs in a row ALASKA HOOSIER 1 Quote
Class of '66 Old Fart Posted February 15, 2022 Author Posted February 15, 2022 A few of Woody's comments on tonight's radio show. On the physicality in the Michigan State game: "It's Big Ten play, man. They allow you to kind of get after it a little bit. Me being a first-year coach in the Big Ten, sometimes I wonder what a foul is, what a travel is." Indiana has a few guys that are "banged up" so Woodson may have to back off a little bit down the stretch in terms of practice. Woodson on social media: "If you decide to read the ****, excuse my language, but that's on you." Napleshoosier, Hippopotamo, IUc2016 and 3 others 6 Quote

IUFAN1976 Posted February 15, 2022 Posted February 15, 2022 I had a dream last night about the Wisconsin game. The dream was that we were force feeding TJD in the post our first 10 possessions, our guys on the perimeter just standing in one spot on every position and TJD forcing up a shot and missing everyone of them. After about the 8-10th miss, the fans decided to leave instead of booing and Assembly Hall pretty much emptied out! I sure hope my dream doesn’t come true, lol! reconmkd Posted February 15, 2022 Posted February 15, 2022 I would say he has to be frustrated with the officiating, hell all of us and tons of other fan bases are as well! Every fan base is constantly complaining on social media, yes I know it occurs in every conference but at least most of the SEC games are watchable. For the life of me I do not understand how the conference leadership cannot see it as well. 21 almost 22 years without a National Title for the B1G and there is a pretty clear reason why the B1G is as unsuccessful in the Tourney. Slow, plodding, half-court, beat the crap out of each other basketball does not do any B1G team any favors in March. Bo Boroski should be banned from any B1G games, FOREVER! I know I can get my hopes up a little too often, I can't help it I'm a CBB fan, but I was really hoping when Delany retired we would see some changes. Quote
Loaded Chicken Sandwich Posted February 15, 2022 Posted February 15, 2022 Uhhh... Yea... Still don't see a win. Don't really see a good game. Unfortunately, this is still the dudes from under Archie. As for Johnson and Kopp, they didn't experience much winning at Pitt and Northwestern. And this team is again showing it doesn't know how to close it out down the stretch. Can this team get to 10-10 in conference? I feel that'd be a good spot to almost guarantee a tourney birth, but I'm seeing 8 or 9 wins and that leaves a lot of space to miss the tourney. I'm not sure this team has the leaders or even a single leader anywhere. Quote

Dave from Dayton Posted February 15, 2022 Posted February 15, 2022 It's starting to get warmer outside. Covid-19 numbers seem, generally, to be on a downswing. USA is getting a decent amount of medals in the Olympics, finally. In just over 2 weeks my Indiana sweetheart and I will be on the beach in southwest Florida. Our taxes are all but done. And Indiana Men's basketball returns to SSAH against Wisconsin in a decent matchup! Having graduated from both IU and UW, I feel very strongly that my alma mater will win. For the record, I don't cheer for Wisconsin. In basketball, I have never cheered for Wisconsin when IU plays them head to head. And in this first year after CAM, Coach Woody and the team are suffering from the junk that came before. Wish it was different than that. But, noooo. I see this thing turning around. Why? Please refer to the first paragraph. Your team is on the floor. IU will win tonight! Because we have to. mamasa, ALASKA HOOSIER, thebigweave and 1 other 2 2 Quote

Unfortunately, this is one thing that coach will likely never solve this season. Being a leader is something very difficult to teach. Ask anyone who has served about leaders. Some soldiers have it naturally and are some of the best leaders to serve under. Some dedicate themselves to learning to become leaders and do a decent job. And finally you can have the most squared away, best soldier in a division that flat out can't do it and cannot be taught to do it, but are made a leader any way and things go bad, real bad! There have been several comments this season that this team lacks an alpha. I think the closest thing to a leader this team has is Galloway. His constant energy and unwillingness to give up are some good characteristics of a leader, I just don't think he is quite there yet. Will he ever become a true leader of this team, who knows, we aren't privy to behind the scenes, but the leader doesn't have to be the best player on the team. thebigweave and ALASKA HOOSIER 2 Quote
Honkyman Posted February 15, 2022 Posted February 15, 2022 Tamar Bates has leadership qualities, too. He needs to be more consistent to have credibility as a leader. Galloway's credibility comes from how hard he plays and his ability to make things happen. If only he could shoot the 3. Stuhoo and ALASKA HOOSIER 2 Quote

Hallelujah There are differences between natural leaders and learned leaders. When the **** hits the fan rank goes out of the window and leaders step up. I'm sure you and a few others on here have experienced that in those situations. Gallo might be the closest thing we have to a leader but there are other dynamics to that. Older players being in the way of him actually leading because they enjoy the status quo. We're not behind the scenes but it's pretty evident on the floor. Woody should have been grooming someone, X would have been perfect, to lead this team. If Woody has been grooming him and this is the product then that is extremely concerning. Class of '66 Old Fart Posted February 15, 2022 Author Posted February 15, 2022 Per @FDSportsbook, Indiana is currently a 3-point favorite (O/U 132.5) for tonight’s Big Ten matchup vs. No. 15 Wisconsin at Assembly Hall (9p ET, ESPN2). Jason Benetti, Jay Bilas, and Myron Medcalf are on the call. ALASKA HOOSIER, HoosierHoops1, Josh and 2 others 4 1 Quote

If Woody has been grooming him and this is the product then that is extremely concerning. I have experienced both ends of the spectrum unfortunately and the worst leaders I ever had came at the worst time in my career. I injured my back in overseas, was having trouble walking, and had no business being in country after the incident. I was accused of faking, put on crap details and shifts for over 3 months before I was released from theater and medically retired. A few months after my my battalion returned from overseas, a buddy from the unit passed away. I attended the funeral walking with a cane and one of my former leaders made a derogatory comment under his breath about me and yes I heard it, as did my wife. At that moment was probably the lowest I had ever felt, to have a former leader trash you, in front of your spouse because you couldn't continue mission. Just because you wear the rank doesn't mean you deserve it and just because you get stellar remarks on NCOER (that is a non-commissioned officer evaluation report for those not familar), does not mean you are a leader. I don't know if Woody has been waiting for someone to step up, but with the comments he made last night, it kind of sounds like it. I don't think X would do the job or not. I like him, think he has had some fairly good moments this year, but the ability for opponents to get in his head will not help him lead at all! You have to lead by example and that's why I say Galloway. I think Trey does a pretty good job of trying to lead by example. I don't think there has been a game this season, where you can say that Trey didn't give it everything within his current limitations. You are probably right about elder team members being in the way of him fully stepping up. Another player that could step up and lead is Race. But he could be one of the one's that Woody was potentially waiting on to take the lead. Of course leadership is not the only thing that this team is in need of, but to have the coach of a P5 team public commenting on things such as leadership, buying in, suspending players in the middle of conference play, it really puts things into perspective on the current state of the team.
